the units are different in design, the outer glass is flat plain, and the components in the reflectors are also v. different.
some of the lads have Ԛ´em, cant remember who though.. problem is if u crack one u r shagged.. coz where are u gonna find a set of knackered ones to swap with?
the Xenon / Halogen thang.. Gas basically mate ;) 2 different types of gas, that when burned/charged give of light. The Xenon runs at a different voltage than the standard/halogenԚ´s do so it needs a transformer to control the power.
Not a cheap system at all, and may end up needing a "level adjuster" set up to keep the lights at the correct pitch (dangerously bright for oncoming traffic at the wrong angle) but lads have professed that as long as the car has the lamp wash system it can be argued that the lenses will be clean enough to eliminate glare so its not essential that u have the adjusters.
aftermarket, the choice is endless (not really but..)
Standard Frogeye (non elipsoid)
Hella or bosch (slight difference in lense circumference, and lense design although the lamp units are almost identical)
Elipsoid (has an internal "magnifing glass" to improve vis.)
Elipsiod smiley ( as above, but with a semi circular cut-out under the elipsiod lense
Smoked hella (as elip smiley but with the reflector in black as opposed to mirror finish giving the illusion of tinted glass, the main beam lamps also have been upgraded with a black insert to acheive the same effect)
Crystal (lamp units similar to the hella/bosch products but with a revised reflector and glass, giving a clearer "crisper" look in appearence when off and on)
thats about all i could remember, but ill havea bucthy for some more Ad
