Just wondering if anyone has noticed any difference in performance between spoilers on the track?
I'm guessing the smallest spoiler helps the air break from from the back of the car, but how much turbulence does the angle of the rear window create? I'm also guessing the tech 2 spoiler doesn't really have any extra benefit, apart from a better weight distribution.
Reason I ask: I have just come into a small amount of inheritance, and i'm either going to get a 318 and enter the production BMW series that so many of you are part of. Or start building a twin seater (like a radical SR4) I have designed from scratch.
Spoilers.... Noticed Any Difference

The M technic 2 kit and Alpina spoilers were developed in a wind tunnel.

I've tried different spoilers on different cars...
I used to race a 2002ti....I had 2 bootlids (both fibreglass) one flat and one with the turbo spoiler profile...
It was purely a racecar...
The flat bootlid made the car feel loose at the back at high speeds (Revett straight, for example), but at lower speeds there was no discernable difference.
My M3 started with a standard spoiler and I have now got that an an Evo Sport replica with road going Gurney...The Gurney flap makes a fairly big difference...again only at higher speeds, but at full extension it takes approx 350rpm off the top speed down Silverstone Hanger straight compared to it fully retracted...There is no difference between the retracted flap and a standard M3 spoiler...

Cheers for the info. Did the Gurney come with the rep spoiler or did you create it your self?Fushion_Julz wrote:I've tried different spoilers on different cars...

Technicaly they are 'wings' as they produce down force. Spoilers are found on hatch backs and they remove the vacuum which forms behind the boot causing drag (please correct me if I'm wrong). You can buy adjustable M3 rear wings for £150 or so IIRC.
