Word of advice from someone thats done it.......DON'T.
Following some dodgy advice, I removed my clock needles & painted them with some of the girlfriend's red nail varnish.
Apart from the fact that they looked complete crap, trying to put them back on was a bloody nightmare & when I eventually succeeded, I found they were in the wrong positions!!!!
I eventually had to get another cluster & this time I very carefully masked up the clocks to just leave the needles exposed (took about 1 hour to do) & then sprayed them with matt red paint from a model shop.
The end result was 1000% better than my previous effort & actually looked almost factory.

for a factory finish use Humbrol Insiginia Red (matt)
leave the needles in situ just mask them off then paint

I've been wanting to paint my needles red for a while now.
This thread has been really useful and I will do it with the needles in place (seems a safer bet).
While the bits are off, I will also mount my chrome rings around the clocks.
Cheers chaps for the timely reminder.
