afternoon all, i have a 318is e36 and the wipers started to have a mind of there own so i changed the motor yesterday and when i put it back on the car i had to leave the wiper blades in the middle of the screen. The reason for this is when i use the wipers the motor will send the arms down towards the bonnet then back up to the top of the screen hen back to the middle where they started.

So i have solved one problem and gained another :x

I thought maybe if i force them back down to the bottom of the screen they will sort their self out but when i turn the ignition on they automatically place their self back to the centre of the glass.

Is this happening because i haven't put the linkage and motor back together properly or do i need another motor?

Help seriously needed folks.

Sounds like it's not put back together quite right? Check x-works' thread - sticky in the E30 chat section. There's a pretty detailed strip and rebuild of an e30 M3 wiper unit with loads of pics that might help. Won't be identical but I bet they're not that different!

You have not put the wipers back on in the right position.. Where they stop is in the middle pointing up right? If so undo the nuts that hold the wiper to the arms, pull the wiper off and put it in the correct position at the bottom of the screen where they would sit normally...

So if you picture a clock the wipers at should be at 3 o clock at rest.

Yours are at 12 o clock

Pull them off at 12 o clock with out turning the wipers on and place them at the bottom of the screen at 3 o clock.

That should do it.

The wipers are sat between 1 and 2 o clock. I can't put the arms back to 3 o'clock because the wiper motor sends the arms DOWN towards the bonnet then to 12 o'clock then back between 1 and 2 o'clock.
