Anyone put a 325 throttle body on a 320?
Moderator: martauto
just got a 325 throttle body off ebay, (someone off the zone, don't know who)
Anyone done the swap and know how effective it is. Planning on getting chip from zone shop to go with to make sure fuelling matches new air intake?
Any thoughts...................

a few people have done it and it definately livens up a 320 a treat.
just need some patience and a dremel is all i know!
The airflow meter will adjust the fueling to amount of air going in, so no worries about getting a lean mixture

Did you do it yourself and how long did it take? How did you bore out the manifold, with a electricdrill?

yeah i've got that, what gave me the idea in the first place. Does the mod work without a chip or do you need one to really feel the difference.
Also is this gonna hurt my fuel consump?!?!?!?

i put mine on last weekend, but i dint bore out the inlet manifold because i was too scared to get filings in there!! whats the knack to not get anything in there? do you take the inlet manifold off?

i stuffed an oily rag in the hole when i done mine mate that caught all the crap.
i have done the throttle body added a cone filter (with diy heat shield) and a zone chip and its made a big improvment my car just felt gutless before.
booked in for a rolling road session on wednesday so i'll find out if it upped the power at all

I did the article for TBMW on my old Gold Ring Slag. You need to open up the manifold otherwise it's a waste of time - you've still got to get air through that hole. A dremel is sort of okay but you need CUTTING drills, not grinding. Grinding ones clog up instantly with ally dust. Or use a very coarse file. Stuff the manifold full of really oily rags. Literally dip them in oil so that all the swarf sticks to them.
It works well but you really do need a chip - I used one of Jaysons (ChippedUK) Viper 2 chips and it really works. I put the old chip back in for the MOT and it felt like the handbrake was on. The standard 320i runs lean because it's a cat prepped ECU and with the extra air going in must run pretty lean. Also talk to Ant here as he'll do something similar.
The last time I drove it was at Croft and it went well. Didn't use any more fuel than before either. Acceleration in 4th and 5th was excellent - when I was racing Simon's car at the Ring, I was running a 3.64 diff against Simon's 3.91. With the same diff, he would have been even harder pushed to get by. I reckon my 320i was doing 140 - 145 bhp but never had it dynoed. The old 2 litre really does sing when opened up and it's sooo smooth compared to a 2.5.
