I thought the claims of the IS beating a 2ltr MR2 were pushing it but 160MPH from an IS is beyond the realms of reason.Dezzy wrote:This is a joke right?Hibsfan1875 wrote:Mine wasn't slow I had it up at 160mph and it could do more but I shat it and slowed down. m42 FTW!
The laws of physics will not support either claim.

160mph?? you must have been on acid mate, my speedo has showed 140mph in the IS but taking in to account speed inaccuracy I would say its more like 130mph
Going back to my previous statement about run of the mill 6 pots, I really cant see them being worth much in the future as there just not quick or special enough to warrant the MPG.
6 pots with a bit of heritage will obviously continue to rise in value but with the current climate and the increasing cost/lack of oil around the world people are simply gonna stop driving cars that drink fuel unless the performance warrants it.
You cant tell me a normal 325 gives the performance you would hope for considering the running costs, even sports are slow for what they are but they are a lil bit special so have an excuse for the high running costs

Beating an MR2 could have happened but the MR2 would need to be driven by a retard or be running on 3 cylinders or bothTopblag wrote:I thought the claims of the IS beating a 2ltr MR2 were pushing it but 160MPH from an IS is beyond the realms of reason.Dezzy wrote:This is a joke right?Hibsfan1875 wrote:Mine wasn't slow I had it up at 160mph and it could do more but I shat it and slowed down. m42 FTW!

...... and that included the time Pete spent on removing
his footwear, when he got to 17 and ran out of digits
on his hands.....

I have an IS it is slow by todays standards but I don't care TBH... Bought it with Tech II kit on it and I love it.
I'm doing an M50 conv on another E30 as a project.
I don't care about the 6pot/4pot argument because I just cruise round in my E30's and they look 10 times better than 99% of other cars on the road. The reason I am doing the conversion is purely to learn and make a great car even better with newer parts.
It is a shame that you 6 potter purists slate the IS but you honestly get a nice car for your cash (unless a turd) and the package as a whole is a good one.
Thought this was E30 zone? Maybe it should be E304potzone.net and E306potzone.net as the same old topic gets boring

How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.
I'm no deluded fool, its f**king slow.DanThe wrote:The iS doesnt get slated because it has 4 cylinders, it gets slated because most iS owners are deluded fools who think its on par with, or better than a 325i

they are better than a 2.0 6 pot by miles and are on par with say a 325 pov spec but I’m never gonna try and say they are better than a sport or a 325 with a big options listDanThe wrote:The iS doesnt get slated because it has 4 cylinders, it gets slated because most iS owners are deluded fools who think its on par with, or better than a 325i
For me it’s about what you get for your money and the IS gives you plenty, and has many more attractive features than a pov spec 325 which means its better
318IS gives you sports seats, front and rear spoilers, fogs, Mtech goodies, up rated suspension & arbs
pov spec 325's give you nothing more than leccy windows if your lucky
bear in mind my main argument has nothing to do with performance, simply what you get as an overall package, yes I know its this is turning in to a 4 vs 6 pot but only because you 6 potters hate on the IS so much and your only argument is to call us deluded 4 pot owners, I think there are just as many deluded 6 pot owners.
The only 6 pot E30 I would really want to own is one with a 24v conversion or an Alpina, ACS, Hartage or sport, anything else just don’t cut the mustard in my book

160mph?
Speedo only reads up to 150mph!
And the galvinised steel of the iS will slow it down......

I've got a brown 320i Moredoor and I've had 165 out of that, and it must be worth about 5 grand coz it's got an electric sunroof.
An IS is more fuel efficient, quicker, and better specced than the average 320i. On the other hand, they cost twice as much to buy and don't sound as nice. You pays yer money and you takes yer choice - I feel my 900 quid was better spent on my near mint low miles moredoor, the next man might have preferred an IS in more average condition. And despite the mythic reputation for iS handling, there are any number of other cars around for sub £2k that will outhandle almost any stock (non-M3) e30 - I love the cars on the whole, but because they are good all rounders and I love the way they look (even in metallic brown!), not because they are excellent in any one area as, quite simply, they aren't.
Alex's 500 quid IS was an absolute stone cold bargain (and misadvertised as a boggo 318i iirc) so is hardly representative of the market either at that time or now. And I'm still jealous.

The 325i overall is a better car than a 318is no doubt, and good examples of both will 100% increase in value.
Any sport e30 will be in demand and good maintained examples will increase in value over the next 2/3 years.(Thats my prediction).
The 318is is a limited production and was only produced from 1989-1991 so this will be a selling point for good examples.
I have driven both and my theory is that the 325i for long cruises(motorway) is awesome and better than the 318is.
The sound/smoothness/torque of the 6 pot makes cruising very enjoyable and is better than the 318is.
The 318is is a better car to drive for fast urban driving due to the fact it is lighter, rev happy and handles nicely. An 318is with suttle mods is impressive but it just doesnt sound as nice as 6 pot and have the same torque.
I can understand why 6 pot owners get annoyed with 318is owners because they hype them too much, but i must admit i think the 318is is defo a good example of e30 and fun to drive.
I think 318is models sell quickly and have seen the prices increase over the last 6 months. I predict that good examples of 318is's will be in the 2-3.5k bracket over the next two years.

I've had an iS, several 325i Sports (I and II) and the M3 in E30 form. I've had an E46 325ci Sport and an E46 320cd Sport.
I now own the car pictured.
Of all the cars I've owned, if I wanted a car to handle well, go as good and cost very little I'd have another (non chavved) Saxo VTS...
But I do so love the E30, whatever flavour it comes in...
