Hopefully somebody will have an answer to this as i am a tad concerned :(

Finally getting ready to get my BTB 3 fitted but I noticed that there is a O2 sensor in my standard downpipe just under the manifold. Whereas the only provison for an O2 sensor on the BTB is on the crossover pipe much further back/underneath the car.

Is it a case of extending the wires? or is there a different O2 sensor that can be fitted?

I'm sure it isnt difficult to put right but I haven't heard any reports of this problem before.

Any help much appreciated.

i was just going to extend the wires as the longest sensor wires ive found are just under a meter in length.

As long as it's a four wire sensor (as is the standard one) it will work fine further back. What engine and age is your car? All the E30's I've come across with lambda sensors have them fitted near the rear of the gearbox anyway.

Many thanks Brian and Silly. Mine is a 1990 325 with a 2 piece exhaust. The current lambda sensor is plugged in up by the offside suspension turret just infront of the battery tray. Is this true of those fitted further back Brian? If so I should be able to locate the OEM sensor.

Thanks again for your help.

A cat fitted to a 325 engine has quite a detrimental effect on both performance and fuel consumption, and since your car is pre 09/92and is not actually required to meet the later emissions limits, have you considered ditching it, along with the lambda sensor? The ECU will sense that it is gone, and substitute a default lambda value instead.
If you do want to keep it, a sensor and loom from a four pot E30 should reach your new location.

Ahhh I see now. Thankfully having had all that trouble with stainless exhausts when the car was 1st put on the road I had the front OEM silencer/cat (Didnt know it was one :o: ) replaced with a stainless steel silencer. Thus the car is now running or at least will be a stainless front section with an OEM rear section to keep the noise down.

Therefore all i need to do (fingers crossed) is do away with the Lambda sensor and all will be ok. I take it the E30 predates the days of a limp home setting.

Thanks again Brian.

No such thing as a limp mode on any E30, but, as I said above, the 325 ECU is designed to run with or without a lambda signal in any case.

It's probably one for a M40.
