i'd say 600 quid in parts
both gasket sets,
main bearing and big end bearings
oil pump.
piston rings
timing belt kit
waterpump
rocker arms
eccentrics
cylinder head test and skim

and that would not include new valve seats and valves and also providing the crank is good.

and don't forget to stick to your plan!

There are loads of "while I'm doing this I might as well"... (performance camshafts, BBTB, exhaust headers, head work, sump baffle, millers mass air meter instead of afm, painting the block / inlet manifold etc etc etc)

Cylinder head bolts,
flywheel bolts,
thermostat

And then you have the stuff tht you should do when you have the motor out.

Clutch
master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Throw out bearing

The list goes on and on.

Four years back I spent about £1500 building my poverty spec 2.7.
Zoner's who have built 2.8 M20's are admitting to a spend of £2000+.
These things ALWAYS cost more than you expect,a decent, full re-build of an M20 head alone will cost at least £350,I was talking to a zoner recently who had paid a proffesional guy almost £800 for a full head rebuild....
M20 is not a cheap engine to play with, costs can of course be kept reasonable by DiY,but very few of us have access to the kind of tools needed to,say, pressure test or skim a cylinder head.
Youth is wasted on the young.

i'll be watching this one with interest as i've got a m20b25 bottom end i want to rebuild & after hearing from stubeedoo that he got his done for nigh on £600 so i might go & get a quote from a local engineering firm who are known for their engine work & offer to get any/all new parts that might be needed.
