Hi all,

I have a m3 evo 3.2 manual, it has 128,000 on the clock with fully stamped BMW history at correct intervals all the way through and the car has only 2 previous owners, with this in mind i am having some work done on the 24th of Aug by Mr Vanos,....

1) The valve timing is being carried out changing shims etc
2) reconditioned Vanos units and gears
3) All oils and filters including final drive

Totalling £1000

The car does run really really well and pulls like a steam train but the vanos unit is really noisy so I want to do it anyway, but my dilema is that the car has 130k on the clock and ive recently read some nightmare stories of spun shells and allsorts and im worried if im going to do all of this work and then BANG something else happens?

It has been recommended to me to change the oil pump and end bearing shells and uprate ARP bolts but that would be another £800 and im happy to lay out a bag of sand but not 2!

What do you guys think??

And thanks for your advice in advance

I think that the vanos is a personal thing, loads of people just let them rattle their t1ts off but Id probably have it done too if the car was a keeper.
Put a set of ARP rod bolts in it for £80 plus £12 for the sump gasket which should protect the bottom end from spinning shells and enjoy your car! :D

To be honest it's only gonna happen if you ring it's neck everytime you drive, personally I wouldn't even do the vanos - most have a rumble. Just enjoy the car, remember you bought it to break it so even if you broke it you've enjoyed it for so long.

that's a good idea, I will do the bolts and just service the oil pump, do you know where I can get ARP bolts from? And what would you expect to pay for a oil pump?

Thanks again
