have you tried resyching it? you can only see the motors move without the mechanism connected if all the levers are in the right place. If you have all parts connected up and the motors clicked back into place the roof should be in the position where the bit that clips to the windscreen is released and pushed up and the rear bow is fully raised, from here with all connected it should be able to be lowered

the ones that sit in the motors the oval shaped ones, basically to give power to the right motor at the right time they need to be in the right position but if all the mechanisms are connected with the motors popped back into place and the hood is in the resync position then something else must be wrong, are you getting current to both motors when the roof is in this resnc position as you should be cos from here you can either push up on switch to activate top motor or down to activate horseshoe motor, is the switch okay?

switch is fine, i swapped it with my mates and it works, levers /bars are in the right place, power to motors, still nothing at all, would the roof or horse shoe move at all if its not re synched?

you need to have locked the horseshoe down with the allen key and clicked both top motors and horseshoe motors down otherwise it will not work. The horseshoe lockdown is on the left hand side of the horseshoe motor on the brown coloured metal bit, its a hole in the centre of this. I think you need to click the motor in first then lock the horseshoe down with the allen key, it turns about 1/4 turn not sure if its left or right but there is a bit of resistance (not too much though!)

Sorry to hi jack the link, but this is exactly why I converted my electric mechanism to manual. The electric system is a poor design and the horseshoe motor drive and linkage is from an engineering point of view diabolical....surprised it ever worked in the first place. The weight of that horsehoe being pushed up and pulled down by that small motor and via that bizarre leverage system is unbeleivable.
Thank God BMW didn't design the rest of the car on the same principles.

probably a valid point , but as its all there i wanna get the thing working, someone please tell me theres an on switch somewhere!!! still cant find this allen key bolt, i know how to drop the motors and lock them again but following the link for resynching the motors it refers to this poxy bolt which locks the lid, your supposed to lock the lid and push the lid motor in at the same time, where the f**k is this allen key bolt?????????????????????????

On my car there is no Allen key bolt inside that small hole, just a piece of flat metal. Is this not normal?

there is no 'allen key bolt' you just need to stick the allen key tool from the toolkit into that hole and turn it about 1/4 turn to lock or unlock the horseshoe catches

If there is no Allen key bolt then why would you need an Allen key? Just turning an Allen key inside the hole isn't going to turn anything in the motor is it?

I'm with Brett on this one... I have no Allen key hole either! Just the back-end of the shaft of the lid-operating gizmo, which actually protrudes through the brown metal removable shroud. Very frustrating, as it can't be turned easily...

Do you think I'm an idiot??! I know what an Allen key orifice looks like and I simply DO NOT HAVE ONE! I merely have the smooth protruberence of a half-inch metal shaft. Stand by for a photo...
