Spax Shocks Warranty
Moderator: martauto
Hi,
Has anyone had problems with Spax shocks leaking from the top? presumably the adjuster's seal has gone. Does that sound like a warranty job?
Having sent it back last week Demon Tweeks say it will take "two weeks or so" before I get a replacement or charged £100 for a new shock.. It's already been off the road for a week, lucky I've got access to another car to drive to work or I'd be screwed.
Has anyone sent Spax shocks back? had any problems?
Thanks

Bad customer service from both parties really isn't it? Spax made bold statements about their reliability being much better since they arrived in their newer factory in Total BMW magazine in the last year or two. Their quality used to be rather suspect, by their own admission, but the boss said the quality problems were now solved.
It would be fair enough if they supplied you a damper, charged you for it and IF it turned out to be a manufacturing error in the damper, then you would get refunded.
Why does it take two weeks to diagnose failure? How many other shock absorbers are they checking?
Spax are a British firm and it's good to support them but if they are still failing, what's the point?

I've had some seriously bad dealings with Demon tweaks in the past promising me the could get parts taking a deposit and then stringing me along for months before changing their minds and then taking weeks to give me my money back.
Won't give them the time of day any more.

They are excelling themselves this time.. I paid for a new shock to get the car on the road asap, they agreed to credit me once Spax get round to agreeing a replacement under warranty.
It just turned up, they sent me a rear shock not a front
They are also going to charge me more and wont send out the correct part until parcel farce have picked this one up.

hmmmm i've just ordered some spax shocks hope they hold up to the abuse im gonna give em, didn't order from demon tweeks though, bought from venom motorsport as they're about £100 cheaper.

Well I spoke to DT customer services this morning, after first denying the warranty call existed they have finally agreed to refund me for the new shock I've had to buy. I'll get my money in 7 days once Spax refund them.
It's now over a month since they got round to picking it up and 6-7 weeks since I first contacted them.

I suppose you've already considered this but why not contact Spax directly, mention that you're going to inform TBMW that the products /services they're endorsing aren't as good as they state.

Gone, but not forgotten !!

cheque in the post to DT is bollocks, no physical money will ever change hands between the two like that, its just not efficient to deal like that anymore.
all that will happen is when DT get there next invoice from spax it will have less what ever one damper comes to on it.
and strictly speaking they should have been replacing a PAIR of dampers in the first place, other wise your risking inconsistent handling.
id say fit the single one they give you, write the car off and blame them for giving you a single damper with a rate not matched to your current one and sue em.
i think a quick email to tbmw is in order as their blatantly taking the piss now.

As I said above Demon Tweeks are bastrads this is exactly the kind of crap I had to deal with from them. Call them back tell them they are talking shite and you want your money back right now. They have to refund you for a faulty product shout about trading standards and ask them to get their manager to put that cheque bollocks in writing to you.
I will gladly phone them and give them hell for you in a very proffesional but to the point manor as I'm no longer a skinny spotty little 19 year old who will just accept what they would say and I would love to realy get some karma back on them.

Spax stuff is less than great. The springs are okay but the dampers are dreadful. Back in the good old days they were okay, but these days they seem to be really poor. I've had issues with adjustable Spax being faulty from new with them set on full stiffness (which is unbearable) and then starting to leak after 100 miles. All this talk of improved quality and TuV approval is hot air.
Boge Sachs or Bilstein. Anything else is rubbish but you get what you pay for - only you don't because the Spax PSX stuff is pretty much Bilstein money.
Jamex is okayish I suppose but you can't beat the real thing. That'll be a set of B6 or B8's, the best dampers money can buy for performance and reliability.
The DT comments are about spot on as well. I've had issues in the past.

As Andrew has said, I have never heard a single bad word about Bilstien's reliability or service. Simple enough to say that both my cars ride with yellow dampersAndyboy wrote:you can't beat the real thing. The comedy continues. I wrote them a letter giving a brief run down and expressing my displeasure with their service. The good new is they have refunded me some money. The bad news is it's the wrong amount, I'm £30 short due to being sent a rear shock first.
They are also still blaming Spax shamelessly which is a tad unprofessional IMO.
Good job I've got a sense of humor.
