Pics? whats the phone number on the label?
Is there a chassis plate at all? if not then it's probably a re-shell / rebuilt car...

I phoned today a company called AUTOLIGN INSPECTIONS i asked about the tag he said its very old early 90 and they do not have the records as the where sold to hpi as it involved a load of insurance companys that went bust years ago.hpi have all the old stuff.
He also said it could mean 1 of 3 things.
1- ACCIDENT DAMAGE/REPAIRABLE
2- WATER DAMAGE.
3- STOLEN/RECOVERED.
The only way i will know is if i hpi the car.
Any idea on who i can try i want the cheapest and the best.
Where do i stand as i did not know anything about this when i bought the car, dont get me wrong she is a very nice car its just that i dont like this hidden past bit.
Any help would be welcome with this matter.
Cheers

the "cheapest way" is to ask the police, just phone your local station...
They may tell you car is not road worthey though! so it wouldn't be the cheapest!

Autolign used to inspect/certificate vehicles that had been written off and repaired. They usually affix a plate next to the Manufacturers id plate.AUTOLIGN INSPECTIONS
I've heard that some vehicles were removed from the Hpi register after passing the Autolign inspection, but don't know this for sure.
If it passed an Autolign inspection, it had been repaired properly, with no 2nd hand panels etc.

you should have the chassis number on the scuttle panel under the windscreen also, just lift the rubber seal up below the wiper arm mount points and you should see the number on there. Maybes worth ringing your local stealers and quoting them your reg number to see if anything crops up on there, shouldn't cost you anything?
but for peace of mind, a proper HPI check is worth the coin
Because is is a possible previous total loss, this doesn't mean the car was terribly damaged. Imagine if someone keyed your car all around and it needed a total respray? If you claimed off your insurers on a fully comp policy it would more than likely be a write off, yet nothing really wrong with the car.
All will be revealed I guess?

Thanks for the support guys but it still hurts as i would have liked to have knowen before i bought the car.
The only possible explanation i can think of with out doing an hpi is it was stolen for the leather interior some time ago,as mine is not standard motorsport issue.
The rest of the car is fine and the bodywork is bang on all the gaps are perfect no worrys there.
The id tag is missing all i have is that companys tag.
The vin/chass number is still below the windscreen, and it still come up as a motorsport at my local bmw dealer.
The only way to find out for sure about its hidden past is do a hpi.
The company gave me a call back today and told me not to worry as some people just got a check for the sake of getting it cheacked if that makes sence.
Cheers
