Woo Hoo

First trackday of the year tomorrow. I can't wait, the car is all prep'd, tools loaded and all I need to do is top up the jerry can in the morning. It feels like ages since I was last on the track...I can't wait.

Its only in Teesside too which is about 30 minutes away so I don't even need to get out of bed at silly o'clock in the morning.

Is that Teeside Autodrome Chris?
I've been round there, in a Clio and a kart. It's a tight circuit, hard on the brakes indeed!

I hope it's just the brakes that are dead on yours! :?

90 mph into a tire wall with no brakes...

Steering column looks bent from my helmet headbutting it, which probably explains the broken nose!

Other than a bruise across my chest from the seatbelt and a broken nose I'll be ok but the shell of the car fooked but everything elseooks ok considering I went from 90 to 0 in half a car length!

Ouch mate, glad you're OK. What a shame about the car.

Are you managing to get it recovered back up the road?

It is a shame about your car, but at least you're ok, that's the main thing.

Nose is defo broken but at least its straight. Massive bruise across my chest of the belt but all my ribs are in tact (give them a good firm punch just to be sure)

Right, I'm off down the pub (assuming I don't get refused entry as it looks like I have just finished 10 rounds with a boxing champ)

Yep thats what I was in. I'll give it a few days till I recover sightly (still a bit sore around the edges) and then have a look at what can be raped from the shell and I'll look at reshelling the running gear assuming all the motor/box is ok.

Chris, I'm sorry to read this, particularly as the car sounded so nice when you drove past me the other evening.
As ever, though, the main thing is that you're not badly hurt.

Good luck with sorting a shell.
This is why I no longer drive an E30......

Sorry to hear this Chris. Bad luck Mate, and such a fantastic looking car as well. At least you came off lightly. Best thing to do is climb back on your horse soon as you can. On the bright side, rebuilding your horse can be a lot of fun. Get well soon.

Regards
Geoff

Bloody hell, Chris! As long as you're OK, that's the main thing. How's the soreness? Get yourself off to your doctor if you have any doubts about how you're healing up.

been to the walk in centre today and they've said that everything is pretty much ok other than a broken nose and some whip lash. Bruise on my chest is a bit sore, neck is stiff, but no real pain. Nose doesn't hurt too much unless I sneeze and all the blood and snot peels off the inside of it :D

Going to move the car to the lockup later on today so I'll get some better pics later, but here is a quick taster.

where i went in

Image

engine has moved back

Image

as much as I did think enough to move my feet back out of the way of the pedals before impact, I would have been ok anyway as the passenger compartment is largely uncompromised

Image

and finally where I faceplanted the steering wheel with my himlet. Bastard 90 pound steering wheel probably spent more time in the post than it did on the car before my face broke it.

Yes and no. I had a very real sense of speed but still had enough time to think about getting my arms at 9 and 3 on the wheel, thumbs out of the way (not hooked around the wheel), feet back away from the pedals, correct position in the seat etc and tried to relax (rather than bracing) prior to impact. I managed all of that and was about 1 car length from impact so I just closed my eyes and waited for the bang.

I open my eyes and tried to focus, there was no fire, I could see, my arms and legs moved as did my head, no back pain, I could feel my nose hurt and blood was pissing out of my helmet from my nose but nothing else hurt, so I took off my helmet, removed my belt and opened the door (took a good shove as the wing was bent back over it, but it moved more than enough to get out with some weight behind it) and was out and standing on the kitty litter as the marshall got there.

I then got took to the medical centre to get a quick checkover and then I went back into the paddock to get a drink to get rid of the taste of blood and give my face and hands a wash (quite bloodied by that point....as was my white shirt)

All was not lost though, at least my Ray Ban's survived in the door pocket so at least I could make a broken nose look fashionable.
