Hi, I picked up my 320 banger last night.
I need the following, but BMW want part numbers. I think they're fairly common replacements, so hopefully some of you will know!
E30 320i se:
Rear Wheel bearing,
Gearstick/selector bush? (I think it needs one of these; the stick wobbles a lot, and the seller said this was the problem)
Light for behind the on board computer.
Ok, question is, a)How do I get the OBC out to replace the bulb?
b)While I'm replacing the gear selector bush, is it worth chucking in a Z3 1.9 shift stick? If it's lots of extra work, I won't bother, but if most work is done in replacing the bush, I might as well!
Many thanks guys, I promise I'll contribute more to the forum when I have learned more! It seems like I'm just asking lots of q's at the minute.
Part numbers and help please!

Hi Mate, been looking on the etk for you.
Wheel bearings are not listed on my copy, try german and swedish or euro car parts (approx Ԛ£20).
Gearshift selector bush is- 25117501309 (approx Ԛ£15)
OBC backlight is- 65811375461 (approx Ԛ£17)
The OBC backlight is a white holder with 2 bulbs on it that slides into the side of the obc from the radio side, the easiest way is to pull the radio out and remove the radio cage from the dash then use a pair of long nose pliers to extract it. The bulb on the back of the obc just lights up the buttons.
The z3 short shift is best done when you replace the selector bush as most of the bits you will need to remove to change the bush anyway. It's a good mod, I have the 1.9 lever and am very happy with it.

Thanks, you are a legend. The OBC display is working, but not bright, and the buttons aren't illuminated, is this the same backlight part that you mentioned?Templ8e30 wrote:Hi Mate, been looking on the etk for you.

Sounds like one of the two bulbs has gone on the obc backlight unit and also the bulb for the buttons.
The button illumination lamp is part number- 62111368299 and is located in the centre on the back of the OBC unit, twist it 1/4 turn to remove it.
Cheers,
Iain T

That was what I was just about to ask! Had the HU out and found the whole obc block is sealed. I think I felt something at the back though, I'll give it a twist and see! Thanks.Templ8e30 wrote:Sounds like one of the two bulbs has gone on the obc backlight unit and also the bulb for the buttons.

Ok, couldn't get any tools around there to get at it.
Does the obc unit come out at all, and if so how?
Also, there is a mystery button. It's not in the instruction book at all!
Basically on the drivers side of the centre console, about 2cm in front of the window buttons there is a double size button (same size as the hazard button, for example) whose markings have worn beyond recognition.
it pushes in and then comes out either to flush or extended, alternately. When extended, there is a red band around it.
Any clues as to what it does? I pressed it and didn't notice a difference.

The obc has 4 small screws around the outside of the case holding it onto the back of the heater control/radio panel. You'll need to remove the trim above the glovebox to get to it.
The mystery button is the safety cut-off/circuit breaker for the leccy windows.
Cheers,

You really are the man with all the answers! Thanks hehe.
I'm spending today cleaning, polishing, maybe laquering over the rust so it doesn't spread and calling local breakers looking for Z3 gearsticks.
Fun!
