hi all, i have a rally 318is which has a number of mods to it and i have also been given an m44 lump, i know the crank is longer stroke and the pistons are of a larger diameter, but are there any other differences with the blocks? also would an m42 head fit onto an m44 block? reason being is i have a little head work done to my m42 and if it won't fit the m44 block then i won't bother as it'll be too expensive to make another head tasty. i know it's only a slight increase in power but the engine on these cars is so easy to whip out especially on mine that it seems like an extra bit of free power for relatively little fuss.
1 are the blocks identical apart from bore/stroke?
2 will an m42 head fit an m44 block?
cheers for any feedback

Pretty sure the heads fit straight on the m44 block, the m44 have oil spray jets under the pistons thats about all the difference i think. Im currently about to start building a larger m42, i already have an m47 88mm stroke crank and some s50 pistons. Mine is also a road rally car so trying to build a good 4 cyl engine.

I imagine it will 'fit' but the M44's bore is larger than the M42. I my mind wouldn't that mean that the dishes in the head won't like up properly with the bores?
