Not as much as E30 Sleeper but still its an amount which hurts...

I now feel even stupider as he said his paypal wasn't working hence I just did a straight bank transfer... Had it been paypal I could have opened a dispute but no joy with this - so I will contact the bank and see if there is any option open to me but as its been over a 3 weeks then I think the answer will be a big fat nothing...

I (though not long on the zone) have had the good fortune of dealing with good people in buying bits for my touring - I even went to the lengths of checking his user name and also I did take some confidence that he was logged as a trader - although I not knowing I hoped at least a trader would have to supply a verified address or something that would make fraud of this style a little harder to do...

Please understand I've had a few, am Pi**ed off and a little lacking in general human faith at the moment. This is not a dig against the Zone or probably 99% of the people on here, as I said, I have dealt with quite a few Zoners and it has all been great, the odd little thing thrown in etc - more than great I would say...

Now, we have an address, a poor bloke frauded out of £650 (E30 Sleeper, please note that we're not all like this!) and myself out of £190. I am more than happy to try and start chasing this, but I can't get there physically (no car this weekend, out of the country for the next 2 weekends...).

Does anyone have any ideas or knowledge for the best route fwd? AFAIK the police will consider this a civil case? Or should we just go straight for the jugular?

Does anyone know his 'real' name?

Cheers,

Matt

Personally, I think the trader status on here should be stopped. I don't recall having any dealings with the member in question here, but I know of at least one E30Zone Trader who has been at best dodgy with myself and other people. IIRC there have been problems with others as well.

The problem as I see it is that the E30Zone Trader status infers that the trader runs a bona-fide business. So here we have a situation where people can buy goodwill buy paying fees to the 'Zone.

At least I'm not alone on that one then.

What exactly does someone have to do to obtain E30Zone Trader status? Is it just a case of handing over the fee?

Trader status is a bit misleading IMO it does seem to imply that some sort of 'verification' process has taken place.

Anyone remember this car?

http://www.e30zone.net/modules.php?name ... c&t=163533

I remember thinking at the time something wasn't right... I guess this is where the tech2 kit came from....

I can't believe people do this kind of thing and then think that if you do it to enough people you will be able to just "get away with it" So far I make it around £1000 of scammed items and thats just the ones we know about!

Feel for you guys that got robbed, I feel ripped off if I receive an item thats condition isn't as described let alone no item at all...
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

This place costs a considerable amount of money to run, and unless you all want to start paying membership fees, the traders are where the money mainly comes from.
E30zone Trader status infers nothing more than the business or individual concerned has paid their dues, either voluntarily or by request from us, although we do our best to make sure dubious traders don't keep returning under new usernames.

Brian, I understand all that. Surely, though, there could be more than one trader status? I fully accept that the 'Zone has to get its funds from somewhere other than those of us who donate.
Example.... The likes of Chris Warburton (just one example) are well known both here and elswhere and are what I'd class as bona-fide traders. Their business is their livelyhood and they treat it and their customers with respect. These are the sort of people who rightly deserve trader status. ....Traders everyone knows we can trust.
The chancers who break a few cars now and again to make a quick buck and loiter around the wanted section PMing "I've got just what you want, send PayPal as a gift...." are not doing anyone any favours, really.
I'm sorry, but any banner that proclaims someone is a trader infers that that person is running a bona-fide business and as such will act in a professional manner and not rip people off.
There needs to be a different title for those members who habitually break cars now and again to make a few quid.

there is now the frequent fragger title I've noticed but there is the choice of which title to buy.. couldn't we make it that any one paying a subscription to break cars is classed as a frequent fragger and that traders have to supply some details before they can purchase a traders title? now I know theres already a few traders on here that don't run it as a business but there are ones that have been supplying the zone with parts for years without a problem.. to name a few..Spadge, speedtouch and a few others.. I'm not saying these ppl should supply details as there good name on here speaks for itself.. but I'm sure spadge and others would happily supply there home address extra to the team to be verified.. at least this way if theres a member looking at parts advertised by a trader we can easily say verified trader as they have had there details checked.. its to easy for a newbie to come on and buy a trader subscription even before they post..

Which is also another good reason for stopping First Posters/Newbies from selling stuff.
Unless they can supply a verified home adress.

OK, how about this for a suggestion.....
Zone Trader needs to supply the Admins with full business address and landline number.
Frequent Fragger (I like that!!) to supply full home address and home landline number.
In both cases the Admins would keep the details on a thread in the Mods area and only give them out when they are sure there is a genuine grievance.

Alternately, how about making it a rule that all For Sales have to include a landline number? If you're genuine, you don't mind giving out your number, do you?

Stuart the address would need to be verified by some means.. they could be given any address.. what if there was a form to be filled out to get verified and this was to be sent out to the address given then would need to be filled in and sent back?? or even a letter with a code on it that would then need to be given to the team member that is dealing with it so they would then know that this person has given a true address..

yes there would be a cost of sending out this through the royal mail but this cost could be taken from the trader's fees
