Ive bought a universal K&N style air filter for my project car, I just need some advice with with. I started fitting it this morning anticipating that I need to remove some sort of air sensor from the standard air box, I think Iv found the right one.

Can this be taken out, or do I need to get a new sensor. I quickly learned that the enigne wouldn't function at all without the sensor plugged in, and wouldn't rev with it plugged in but not attached.

Can any one help?

I think your find you'll need to put your air flow meter back on!
Between the filter and intake boot should do it!

That universal K&N air filter will loose you power. The original BMW air box is better.

I thought I'd need to have it in somewhere. I'll think of something. I'm not bothered about extra power yet, this car is my daily. My weekend toy probably has bout 3x the power of what my old M20 is producing.

As mentioned, you need to replace the air flow meter and then bolt the cone filter to that. The problem you may have is that if there is not an adaptor in the kit to bolt the round rubber end of the cone filter to the square inlet of the air flow meter then it won't connect.

You will more than likely discover a loss of low down torque with a cone filter

What Iv done is used the standard air box, taken the filter out and attached the universal filter to the intake on the standard box, seems to work. Its a bit pikey but i'll see how it goes.

My personal opinion of those steel mesh type air filters is un-repeatable on a family forum :x
