Hi - got a real annoying fault on my 320i - recently disconnected battery for welding work - checking everything over when reconnecting, I found the vacuum hose from inlet manifold to front of engine leaking, so fitted new hose. Tickover now approx 600rpm and steady. When you apply just a whisper of throttle to take off, the engine revs up and down between 400 - 800 rpm, and sometimes stalls. OK if you start off with big wellyful of throttle, but surely something is wrong? - Any clues? IMO it must be either a) throttle position switch, b) Idle control valve or c) AFM. Any advice welcome...

If you disconnect the battery for long periods the ECU has to relearn settings, give it a couple of days to settle down and see if it's still doing it.
