Hi all.

Yesterday I got my 1988 320 coupe back on the road after 4 months of welding, overhaul, new panels and swearing. Now it's got a ticket on it I'm gonna start thinking about its appearance. I want decent bodykit then I'll respray the whole lot.

I've decided on the Mtech 2 kit as I think its the best looking OEM kit. Scouring the internet I've read a few things that have confused me, so I need your help. I've read that some bodykits only fit a pre or post facelift, and something about plastic bumpers?

Can I just buy any Mtech 2 kit (or replica) or do I need a phase specific one. Here's a pic of the car if it helps

Image

And wishful thinking maybe, but I want something that looks a bit like this...

Any help would be much appreciated.

The car you have is a facelift E30 (AKA a plastic bumpered car)

Fortunately for you, this means that the Tech 2 kit (which is specifically designed for facelifts) fits straight on.

The Tech 1 kit fits straight on to prefacelift E30s (AKA chrome/metal bumpered cars).

Happily, this means that all you have to do is find and buy a Tech 2 kit then spray/fit it. Then simply buy some bling rims and you'll have something that closely resembles the second pic you posted.

Hope this clears it up a bit :thumb:

By the way, the car you want yours to look like only has the mtech2 front bumper, its not kitted apart from that, its slammed on bbs rs split rims though which are also on my own xmas wish list (fat chance)

Yeh I do like it without the Mtech spoiler. I might go for the E28 M5 spoiler, very subtle. Those BBS look like they have a widened lip, so waaaaay out of my price range. I'll have to find something a bit cheaper.

Do many ppl go for motorsport style multi spoke rims on e30's, like the Team Dynamics 1.2 like most current Touring Cars, or do most stick to cross spoke style?

Edited and removed by mrLEE30 - AJSingh's workmates got onto his computer and posted the test you copied. i have removed it.

Different people do different things to their cars for different reasons, some like them standard others like myself like to personalise them, whether it be optical (bodystyling, wheels) or technical (under the bonnet stuff etc)

over the last 3 years i've found this forum to be very helpfull and on the most part encouraging and believe it or not we enjoy talking about our cars and most of us can spell too, instead of posting a load of drivvel you might like to practice your spelling a bit and you might not appear such a chav yourself in the future

Tech II with no spoiler = Euro look WIN.

Quite simple to stick a Tech II kit on but it will only vaguely resemble the second pic you posted. Looks like that's had the arches flared and has clearly been slammed. Stance has definitely been nailed, which can be quite difficult on an E30 due to annoying reverse rake look that most end up with. Also running probably the best wheels IMO for an E30 in some wicked sizes, 11J at the back IIRC.

In short it would be very expensive to get it looking like the Felgen car but a slapping a Tech II kit is relatively easy.

The car has definitley been lowered.....most likely on some sort of coilover (probably KW) but a stance like that would make the car more or less un-driveable for regular use. Strictly show car.

Oh sorry . I see what you mean.
Another thing I was wondering was that is the M3 Evo bumpers the same as the Evo2 & sport. Are they the same bumpers as the Mtec 2 kit? :o:

the only things that are the same between the m3 and a standard e30 bodywise are the doors and bonnet iirc nothing else will fit (easily)

the m3's dont have a bodykit as such, they were made differently
