from what i've read about doing an m52 conversion most write ups consist of doing an obd-i conversion. Is this necessary if i have all the wiring bits from the obd-ii setup [keys, ignition barrel, ews etc.]? Or is it also a better idea for the long term as some sites say it allows greater tuning potential?

i basically have an e36 2.8 and an e34 2.5 sitting in the garage and am wondering what bits to use from each!

You must be reading american info. If you change to M50 management you will have to have it mapped to suit the new engine.

The M52 management is much more advanced and user friendly, I would rather convert an M50 to M52 management than the other way around

great! thanks for the quick response - so the only bit's i should need off the e34 2.5 is the sump, oil pickup/pump, dipstick and inlet manifold?
