can anyone suggest a good wax please?

been using turtle wax and its just a pain in the ass, its nails to polish off and leave tons of dust. can anyone suggest a half decent wax and suggest a better way of getting the wax off, got a posh buffer cloth which is crap at removing it.

Autoglym HD or Poorboys are good. If it's difficult taking it off, you're putting too much on or not letting it set. Very thin layers x4 is better and easier than one thick layer.

Buy some Zaino Z2 and ZFX, zero dust because it's layered so thinly.

i'am using this stuff at the moment, lasts ages and is really good. best for darker paints but works wonders on my Alpine white Paint II removes swirls well if used a few times

Mer is allright. Bit dusty though and quite abrasive on paintwork. Not one to use too regular. What about turtle wax ice?

I've been using that recently - seems easy to put on, takes a bit of buffing up (maybe I was using too much).
Results are good, but I've found it leaves the paintwork a bit "sticky" and seems to attract dust etc, therefor I'veended up washing the cabby even more than usual

yeh i found exacly the same, takes forever to buff off. does bring it nice but is just to much of a fook about for me

Just cleaned the touring this weekend and finished it off with Poorboys Nattys paste wax; bought it ages ago but have never used it.
Have to say I'm very impressed with the results, well worth the money in my opinion!

spent ten quid on one from tinterweb but i find its just to soft to do it, i have to use a dishcloth to get it off gently then use that cloth for buffing

I have a drawer full of microfibre cloths in the garage, most I've picked up pretty cheaply. Last one I got was a big orange "drying towel" from Poundland It's great!!


Is there a big difference in microfibre to justify the price of some of the more expensive ones out there? - convince me.

i dont know ive had some pound land ones, the 2 for a pound ones are great, the fluffier the better ive found, i bought some others also from the pound shop 5 in a pack they didnt feel microfibre at all and were useless, ive also got some from halfrauds. no real difference.

i use to use the old t shirt method until i got a microfibre cloth free with something i bought, ever since i wont use old t shirts. i have around 10 in different colours, ( i even use certain colours for certain things, green one is for windows ) good thing is you can wash them when there dirty

must take half the time to wax a car using microfibre cloths a few wipes and its 100% clear of wax, no rubbing for ages trying to get wax off

A decent microfibre will have no tags on the edges as these can cause swirls.

I use megs no26, gives good results and isnt overly dusty.

Do the CD test to see how much two towels can differ.

A blank CDR is used as a test surface, Swipe the towel over the surface with moderate pressure and you will probably notice the cheap towels leave slight micro marring. A better quality towel should not leave marks.

I test my collection of towels (probably 40+ in total) every few months to make sure I'm not risking the paint, The ones that fail the test get relegated to shuts/wheels/glass.

Yup, I did look after a few cars last year for show prep. Got through towels very quickly so had loads to save washing them every time I do a car.

I get through loads , dump the used ones in an old bucket, and then wash them all at once - 90 degree wash, then tumble dry to get them fluffy again.

I've used Autoglym HD wax on a metallic black 325i and is very good indeed.
Apply sparingly and leave for about an hour preferably in a cool shady area...garage is ideal, it buffs up easily and leaves a fabulous deep shine, which lasts for ages.
As for cloths and colour coding what is that all about, I've just got a massive roll of lint free muslin cloth just cut off what I need and chuck it away when it is used....if its good enough for Rolls Royce / Bentley (I used to work in the bodywork shop in my uni. holidays)... its good enough for me !!
