Im ready to tax my cabbie after having it SORN'd since November 09. I've got my V5C, insurance and MOT, so im ready to go

However

I want to get it taxed ready for first thing on Tuesday 1st June, but obviously Monday is a bank holiday, so, my plan was to go to the post office, explain, and hopefully get them to sell me a tax disc that starts 1 June

However

From what I've read so far, I wont be able to, as its currently Sorn'd and the only way to tax it is for the month you try and tax it in, regardless of the date situation

ie, if I try to do it tomorrow or saturday morning, i'll be told I can only have one that starts from 1 May

Any ideas if this is right or not?

Cheers

yup, i wanna drive it to work on Tuesday, rain or no rain!!!

Im astonished that the DVLA, what with their clever cameras, strict policing on us honest people, etc etc, can't deal with handing over a tax disc for 2 days in advance just because its sorned. Its not like ill be driving it pre 31/5/10 and if I did, I'd expect to get caught by the cameras, so I think its just another case of us honest drivers being whipped and punished....

These systems should be designed to help us honest people, not make life bloody difficult for us?

i'd just buy it online at 00.01am tuesday morning.

ok, so technically you could be done for 'failure to display' but its very unlikely as the most plod is likely to do is a database check which will show your car as being taxed.
cheers,

I was going to say,you must be able to buy it a few days early, otherwise, how would you get to the post office in the first place if you had to wait until the first of the month.
