Alreet boys and ladyboys, how are we this fine evening?
Quick question I have, would be;
Can I use a facelift wiring loom on a pre-facelift car? Mainly the engine, but I have chance to be the first near a facelift breaker, so could get the full loom for cheaps, but only if its going to fit.
Cheers in advance.

No one?
I believe I will also need the ECU from the same vehicle as the connections are different.
Is anyone able to confirm this?

Engine loom is completely separate from the body loom, and a pre facelift engine loom will plug into a post facelift body loom, providing the pre facelift part isn't so old that it doesn't have the 20 pin round engine loom connector. There's possibly a couple of other wires that need to be re routed, but nothing too difficult.
A facelift engine loom (plus much more sophisticated ECU) is a well documented upgrade for a pre facelift M20, but there's a few other things needed as well.
What exactly are your plans?

Thanks for the information Brian, much appreciated.
My current plans are to get the car back on the road at the moment, and sourcing a good wiring loom for either the engine or body from a pre-facelift vehicle isn't quite as easy as I had though. I've sent numerous messages out via ebay, and the forum along with emails to around 10 breakers yards.
Most are stupidly high priced for the pre-facelift loom, or are only able to supply part of it. I have however, come across 2 post-facelift E30's in a very local breakers yards, which, at the moment, are complete minus a few body panels. Hence the thought of using a post-facelift loom on the pre-facelift "restoration" project I'm currently involved in.

Changing the body loom would be a major undertaking, and fitting a facelift body loom to a pre facelift car will cause many and varied problems with plugs and sockets being different. Is there anything wrong with the existing body loom?
What engine is this for? As I said above, there are advantages with upgrading the engine looms.

The vehicle looks to have been stored in a barn for a couple of decades, and the mice have gotten in to pretty much everything and had a gourmet meal on most of the wiring.
I have the car stripped back to an almost bare shell, and it's currently being used to store a few bits that are needed to get it back on the road, although if I weren't so lazy I could put these bits in the garage, which in turn would mean that the car is completely empty. I also have to replace the rear end panels, mainly due to tin worm and poor previously welded repair panels which have trapped dirt and water, rusting both the replacement panel and the existing bodywork - these can be replaced with facelift parts as the price difference is minimal, although this task in itself is a massive hurdle I've still got to get over.
The engine in question, would be the M20B20 straight 6, which suprisingly, is in really good condition both externally and internally.
