A few weeks after I bought the car, coolant started disappearing. It turned out to be a cracked head beyond repair. Cost big bucks for a new one, and the required tools etc., but it's all good now. Here's a series of photos starting with the repair followed by some post-wash shots from a sunny Melbourne autumn day. I'm loving this car.

Took about 5mm of carbon off these pistons with a nylon brush!

Mmm, clean. TDC and ready to drop in. Stock exhaust was sandblasted and painted with ceramic paint, this stuff stinks when you put it in the oven so be warned, wait until the wife goes out! New studs and copper lock nuts.

JVC stereo doesn't dim enough for my taste but it makes OK sound. Mtech 1 steering wheel. Dash is perfect under the mat but it came with the car so I keep it there on the theory no sun, no cracks.

Bead blasted alloy intake manifold, no paint.

Exhaust side... clean alloy picks up fingerprints very easily.

I don't think this is a stock toolkit (5 series? 7?) but it's handy.

And that's it! Car is very stock so I am reluctant to mess with it, but if the auto dies will go for a manual conversion rather than replace it. Other than that only minor plans for things like smiley headlights, maybe the BMW or BBS 15" wheels if I found some at the right price. I don't mind functional replacements - like silicon hoses - but I wouldn't lower it just for looks.

Nice looking car. The large toolkit and liner under the bootlid was not fitted to Bmw Australia delivered cars. It must be a South African Or English car i guess. Be great to convert it to manual.

That's a very nice looking car,
I personally think white really suits the square shaped BM's really well,
Love the mat on the dash, never seen one of those before, is it a dealer part or just an Australian part (looks fitted so I'm guessing it's not an aftermarket part,)?
:D

Very nice tidy car, not too common to find a stock car in that condition.

Mostly stock. I might get some smiley headlights if I find some nice genuine ones. 15" BBS wheels when I find some reasonably priced. Sport seats in matching trim I would snap up. No other real plans, I won't lower it seeing as the previous owner has renewed most of the suspension components as stock. I'm just cruising to work...
