I need help!! and i know i will get it in here!!
I have 86 e30, and my drivers side electric window does a strange thing it goes up and down as it should, but when it gets to the top its as if the motor is still trying to push it up so it makes a loud clicking noise. my other window is fine.
Can ya help, go easy though im no mechanic or sparky lol
Cheers

I think the mechanisms on the earlier cars were the @rack and pinion' type and it sounds as though the pinion on the motor is worn and the clicking is it skipping over the notches on the flexible 'rack'
I'd say renew the mechanism ( I don't know if it's a complete mechanism and fixed motor on the earlier cars) If the mechanism is available separately from the motor it should be a relatively easy and inexpensive job to fix.
note:
L and R motors aren't interchangeable.
Mechanism changed to 'scissor' type around 1988 and motors are different
mechanisms are different for manual and electric windows.
All the best

just had a look on OEM and motors are separate from the mechanisms. Gsf don't list one, ECP aren't clear, so if I was you I'd call the dealer and go from there.
