1990 "G" 2-door
1.8 16v 136BHP
Brilliant red
seen as i've always been a massive fan of all E30 BM's it was only a matter of time until i got hold of another one, got this one on the 7th May 2010 and in a word it is a "belter" :? but like most car's on the road it ain't perfect (yet) 8-)
Image
Image

on the way home from collecting the car i heard a knocking noise from the N/S front strut so i stripped of the strut to find that the insert had not been screwed down so was moving in & out the strut case with every movement of the spring .. all the inserts & springs are spanking new, while it was stripped i noticed that the upper spring plate needed changed (one was like a T-bag! & should never have been refitted when the suspension was fitted  ) so i stripped the other side down as i'd rather renew each side ;)

only real annoying areas are that the front wings got replaced when it got it's respray & the front was lowered to much and both front tyres have rubbed the lip on each wing & bent them a little (not 2 bad but there's not realy anything else wrong)

got up nice and early today (saturday) to sort out the suspension upper spring plates, phoned euro car parts to be told "sorry mate, dealer supply only" so i called my local BMW dealer to be told there will be a 4wk waiting period .. i hung-up on him :D
so after a wee search on the E30 zone i was told that a E34 uses the same part's so went to my local breakers and stripped down a E34 for the part's got home and blitz my car, i also didn't want to refit the -60mm springs i had a near new set from my old convertible lying about :D so armed with a grinder i cut 2 coils off them and fitted them (for now, i'll be ordering new springs for it) it's sitting slightly higher up front than the rear but it's not realy to bad looking :D today i done loads of wee job's (mostly just checking over stuff) and got a start on cleaning the engine bay, not to grubby under the bonnet but still, a wee clean will do it no harm :D

i also took some pics of it as it sit's now (with the chopped springs fitted) 8-)

compared to my last car the 318iS is amazing on fuel :D i had a golf VR6 before the E30 .. sorry i never look at fuel use as MPG, when i get a car at first i judge my fuel use by the amount of miles i get for £15
in my VR6 i got about 50 miles so far in the E30 i've covered about 80 miles and i'm still a bit to go before the fuel light comes back on

small upgrade
tonight i sorted my fog lights, i rewired them as the original pins in the rear of the light/housing had rotten away and i fitted a black insert in to the front vent bellow the bumper

Image

just need to get bulbs in the foggies so that they match more with the HID lighting in my head light's :)

if you've not noticed yet i'm a bit of a "picture whore"i was just about to post a pic of my car with it's suspension settled down now & now wearing 215/40 rubber.. then i decided to fart about on photobucket winkeye so i blurred out the back ground
Image

i must admit it is a far nicer drive on 215/40/17 than it was with the 205/40/17

this is a pic of a tyre that was on the rear of my car
Image
looks like the last owner had driven on it flat as it had a nasty deep grove right round the inside tyre wall as well as the very dangerous 7" rip on the outside wall, all 4 tyres had at least 6mm of tread on them but in the wet they were shocking!

I like it mate, looks good without the eyebrows, I think the 60mm springs looked better :p I to have the dilemma whether or not to paint the eyebrows black, hmm! Did you fit the HID lights yourself? If so, what is involved? Is it just bulbs?

If your planning on putting the front indicator lenses back to standard, I will have the clear ones off you, say your price £ 8)

cheers Kemix .. the HID kit's were already in place when i got the E30, think they are 6K ones but i might replace them? they can be a bit temperamental at turning one
i'll keep you in mind as & when i get round to changing it back to standard-ish looking
i agree that when it was -60mm it look excellent but with it running 17" wheels they were buffing the front arches, and had bent them slightly to & with us going a wee tour of Northumberland last month on holiday & with the E30 being my daily runner i thought it better in the long run to raise it :D
