they are pretty good (so long as the car isn't held together with rust) so frontals & rear ends are good for the age of car.
Side impacts are where you are most vulnerable.
I had a tidy smack in my touring in October, approx 30-40mph sideways into a lamp post. I would probably be one injured puppy if it was not for the bucket seats and also I reckon if the impact took place in the same place on a 2dr it would have been bad, but with the B pillar being further forward on the touring & 4dr, that stopped so much inwards travel.

For a 20 year old car they are pretty good as long as they are sound, still not a patch on a modern car though.

From personal experience,Touring's roll quite well, but don't fare quite so well in a side impact,as the guy who run into my one whilst it was parked up, found out

I had the misfortune to prang my Tech 2 Sport, after aquaplaning at around 70mph, which sent me into the central reservation crash barrier
I braced myself, fully expecting it to hurt rather alot, but amazingly, the car just bounced off and ended up on the other side of the dual carriageway. I was able to open the door easily, and though the front end was stoved in, there was no windscreen damage, and I clambered out without a scratch!
Sadly, the car was a Cat B write-off after the incident

I bounced my old coupe off the barriers on either side of a dual carriage way at prob 40mph, front and back both smashed up but it still drove home, albeit v v slowly with two tyres scraping against the bodywork
Me and my mom were both unhurt and the car was fixed up after many months of sourcing the required parts.

IIRC, only the later models have them, from about H/J-reg onwards, and possibly only on Tourings. Can anyone confirm this?brummimatt wrote:I have heard before abou them being weak on the sides. Do they have side impact bars?.

I don't really want to roll one but I seem to remember there used to be an ad for them balancing on the screen ...and they are much better on side impacts as they have that bloody big sill reinforcer!Alex wrote:Can you survive if you Roll a cabby

From my recent experience, a 2 door E30 doesn't like side impact very much. I had a very lucky escape from a driver side collision with a lamp post.
