hi all

on my 325i when idling i can hear a grinding noise from the gearbox (small pitched whine warm/cold engine), this whine then becomes like a squeeling pig when i press the clutch pedal down, get worse when its held there , very  noise...arghhhh

now i have done a search and came to the conclusion that its the clutch release/thrust bearing, no problem get a new clutch kit in there.

now the is where i get confused  ? i know what the clutch thrust bearing does and is/maybe the culprit here, while reading the post it mentioned "bearing on the input shaft to the gearbox ", what this??

is it this one http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=11&fg=20 labelled number 1 in the picture?
i think its this one because this is where the input is from the gearbox? correct?

http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... ht=bearing this is the post i got the inforamtion from.

want to buy the bits and bobs today so all comments/helps appreciated. 8) thanks.

Hi Matey, it could well be that bearing. It sits inside the end of the crankshaft and centre's the gearbox input shaft inside it. If it didn't have this the input shaft could snap.

It is known as a spigot bearing, like the clutch release bearing it only spins when the engine is running and the clutch is pressed in.

Cheers,

No worries mate, glad to help.

I've got a busy weekend under an e30 too, replacing a 320i engine on a mate's motor

Cheers,
