S2000 Engined E30 on the 'bay

I always wanted to do the F20 conversion into my track E30, it does seem pretty perfect.
It's only the massive cost (in comparison to say an M52) and the fact it would rule out the possibility of racing in most series' (should I ever find the money to do that...) that put me off.
I'd love a go in that one.

I don't think that's expensive , try building one for that.
i always assumed they'd be more powerfull than 240bhp after all the noise the honda fanboys make, and the stupid on off vtec system they have.
i'm sure it's a good conversion, and i'm sure it's a lot of fun, but thats s50d e30 money. with a man size 300bhp and enough torque to spin a can opener

Just what I was thinking. There's no doubt he's a nice guy and the car would cost a fortune to build but that's not far off Z3M money. Having taken a s2000 to the ring and completing 30laps over the weekend , I can not stress how awesome the F20 Honda lump and s2000 chassis is.
If you consider it's only a 2 litre making 240hp it really is an awesome bit of engineering. Compare it to an s14 i know which I would prefer.
Just a note I don't own an s2000 so I'm not bias, but after having one to play with, I serioully considered ditching off e30s /BMWs and buying one.p

That may be the case but 100bhp is the target for a very good na motor and even by today standards 120bhp per litre is very impressive. How many na mass produced motor achieve this and are 100% reliable.
I don't want to turn this in to an s14 / f20 debate but you have to understand the Honda engineers have done an awesome job.
Also if 240hp is not enough you can buy a rotrex kit for it and have 9000rpm 350hp monster.

I have heard very differently about the chassis and package from regular 'Ringers.. The japs are a bit special at making cracking N/A motors imo the mk1 1.6 mr2 comes to mind for me that was one hell of an engine(cant remember the figures) and a swift gti 1.3 i drove years ago was also a beast for such a small engine.
Personaly thow that honda engine in an e30 doesnt do nothing for me id rather have a big V8,an s50 or if your mad the engine out of the e39 M5 or e60 M5

What I fear you are getting confused with a chassis that is superb but a little extreme for your average driver. The mk1 s2000 is renowned for it's 'snappy' handling and the feel that the rear is unplanted in mid corner, however due to the engine position you simply have to drive the car on the throttle similar to a mid engined car.
The handling upgrade you mentioned was merely Honda softening up the s2000 by fitting a thicker front roll bar and bigger wheels, ideal for a your average owner but I prefer the razor sharp turn in of the mk1.

I for the money there are better engine options though I reckon.. S50 would be my choice I reckon (regardless that I have one already) the engine is superb, so flexible, few times I was caught in too low a gear on the 'Ring, but even up hill it doesn't really matter, above 3.5k through to the limiter it 'pulls like a train', and despite running S14 spec'd suspension, it still handles well.. Going back this year with Intrax coilovers designed for the extra weight of the S50

I have no doubt the extra torque of the s50 would be a huge advantage and I also agree that a na s2000 lump is not a conversion I would complete in an e30.

I would have thought a stripped out e30 is approx 200kg lighter than an s2000 and no doubt would be a weapon but for the cost of a well engineered conversion I would prefer more power, hence why I'm putting a b234r Saab lump in mine,

As said, 210bhp per litre is very impressive. It is on a single throttle as well I think, even more impressive. You have to love the ability for it to rev.
We have a 1600 K series on a plenum and a single TB at work, it makes 216bhp on our engine dyno. Around 135bhp per litre. It won't last the 100k miles that a Honda probably would, and that is the impressive bit IMO.
