Thinking of having a gamble with it for the price, input welcome.

Is that the price? Needed to be a better respray job for that money imo.
Why not chance the E9, and if it's too much work you'll easy sell it on.

I thought E9's need big boy money spent on them to restore. Makes E30 resto look like a oil change.

No, it's just the shape and the presence of the car that I've always like.bss325i wrote:Its only a 3.0CSA. Not exactly desirable.
Where others are noving forward with "Newer" BMW's, I prefer to go back in time, E30, E21, and I will have an E9 at some time.

Not desirable to who?? I think they're cool.bss325i wrote:Its only a 3.0CSA. Not exactly desirable.
If somebody wants an E9, there isn't a whole load of choice out there nowadays. The CSL's/batmobiles are silly money, so that only really leaves the basic models to sort through.
If a nice one can be found now, it should be worth good money in a few years time. Look at the price of basic-spec Escort Mk1's...

Unlikely, if they were going to peak in price it would have happened by now.sihooker wrote:Not desirable to who?? I think they're cool.bss325i wrote:Its only a 3.0CSA. Not exactly desirable.

I just dont see the point in going on an expensive welding mission for something that isn't worth alot and doesnt have a huge following.
Fair enough if you just want an E9 but it would be a waste of money imo.

I agree with a welding mission being pointless on a car with no particular pedigree, but with cars you can never tell what's going to be 'fashionable' next year. Prices rise and fall on the whims of the buyer.bss325i wrote:

You only have to look at the prices of E21's and E28's to see what could happen to the E9 at any time...

I can see both sides here.
E9 CSi's and CSL's have been priced well out of the range of the average BMW enthusiast. Therefore a CSA may seem like a good alternative as they are significantly cheaper.
However, that car is £1500 for a reason. It needs at leat another £15k throwing at it. We all know how much some of us have spent on our cars
. Believe me, there will be no change out of 15 bags on that for the full proper resto it needs.
For a classic to be worth TOP money, it has to be as it came out of the factory. Originality in spec and numbers is everything. Thats where these fall over. The CSA has never had the following. Yeah you could manual converion and you have a non original CSA thats in all respects, a CSi. But it won't be worth anywhere near as much as a "true" CSi.

I'd have it but that's a total resto job, never gonna be a quick spit and polish. Imagine what you'd spend, how hard it would be to find parts and how long it would take to do it. Bet you wouldn't see much change out 10-15 grand for it to not be worth that when it's done.
Must be more worthwhile projects to get your teeth into.
I know it's not BMW but I got myself a B plate Daimler Double Six with one owner, mint interior(only needs a bit of re-veneering), mint running engine (been sat a long time so needs a bit of fettling) but needs a bit of bodywork sorting plus a full paint job.
Not worth a fortune but it's worthwhile work and not leaving you loosing a shed load once you sell it.

It's all been said... that car would look lovely when restored but it would have to be a labour of love and your wife is right to be alarmed - you won't be going on holiday while that thing is eating it's head off in gas and filler!

If I was to resto this car I would make it into a project. I would drop a S38 in it, CSL front spoiler and rear ducktail spoiler. M tri colour stripes.
