Hello there
I have my engine now in the correct place thanks to everyones advice. I tried to pull the M30 wiring loom into the E30 fuse box plug to find that they are both female plugs. How do I get around this? Do I have to swap the plug over?
Are there any wiring diagrams to do this?
Regards Steven

Why would you want to pull the M30 loom into the Fusebox??
Have you read the M30 engine swap posts, all you need to do with the wiring is to feed it through to the origional place under the dash and bolt it up to the ecu.
Then 3 wires need to be swapped for the windows, heater fan and MPG guage.
That's it.

Hello
I can see what you are saying but that isn't the problem.
I have read the M30 swap posts. On the old M20 loom there is a plug next to the fuse box which has to be disconnected to remove the engine and the loom.
I have fitted the new M30 engine with the M30 loom attached and the fuse box plug is different to the M20 one.
The fuse box connection is a female and the plug on the M20 loom is male. The plug on the M30 loom however is a famale and will not plug in. So at present I have no power to my fuse box.
Hope you can understand what I mean. It is akward to explain
Regards Steven

What car is the engine from???
E28 or E30, as far as I know, the early ones will have a different c101 plug.
Also what year is your car as the C101 plugs were different on the early cars.

I think the later M30 looms had a different style C101 plug, can you get a picture of it? What car did you get the engine from?

The engine is from a 1989 535i E34 and the E30 is a 1990 320i.
The ECU plugs are the same but the plug for the fuse box is different. Would I be missing something?
Regards

No I have that plug next to it. I don't know how to add pictures but here is a link to my Facebook with the two plugs next to one another. The top plug is the E30 fuse box plug

The plug you are refering to (if its the large round one by the fusebox) isn't actually for the fusebox.
This one

Thats the C101 plug and I think later e34 cars had a different type of plug that didn't simply plug into the e30 loom

You need to read Brian Mooore's write up about putting these two looms together, certain models have an earth connection that could magnify your wiring problems by errr lots!
Not sure where it is but it'll be a sticky somewhere

I have read the Brian Mooores write up and I will definately be checking I don't do that!
So basically I have to swap the 25 pin E34 plug for the 20 pin E30 plug.
I am electrically minded as I am a Electrical Fitter by trade but are there any diagrams showing the pin connections for the 25 pin E34 plug and the 20 pin E30 plug?
Regards Steven

You don't need to connect many of the wires to actually get it running. A lot of them are not used (auto gearbox etc.) Mine is running with the wires connected in the picture, six I think

Did you find that the wires were coloured the same on both looms? Obviously checking pin 20 sa per Brian Moooores thread. Have the exact same problem on my M30 into 1989 320 swap
