If you want an "easy" and relatively cheap upgraded engine, just go down the m52 route. Will give you a true 190hp with the benefits of being modern. Been done a lot too so help is always at hand.
If not then fix up your current m20. But won't cost you that much more to go m5x, mine was about £700 all in.
wot size m52 are you talking about?

As said 2.8.
Or the m50 2.5, make the same power but if you strap on the m50 inlet to the m52, will take it nicely past 200hp.

Wow, because I often drive around labouring the engine. I must look out for that next time I do a swap.
Invalid point.

Flexibility is important to some - not everyone wants to be constantly stirring the cogs to keep in the power band.
That's the beauty of the M30B35; it may be old-fashioned, but it's a stonking torque-meister, and with its forged crank, they can rev surprisingly well too - I had a 20-year old one up to 7,000+ rpm on several occasions with no dramas.

yeah, well mine is 86k and with the process of puting it into an e30, ie decat/exhaust and cooler, mess with boost, it going to be 350ish, with hibrid's on like another soarer, on hjc , he is running 404hp, apparently they are good for upto 600ish

Just jap engine wrongness.
In reality, the best thing to stick in would be a high power turbo jap 4 pot IMO.

Yup, I can vouch for that
I may have a complete 3.0ltr S50 conversion kit for sale in the next month or so - and by complete, I mean everything needed to convert an E30, including all the little bits people tend to forget about.
PM me if you want any details

if your undecided in anyway about what engine to go for, If you ever hampshire way ill take you out in my m50 touring if you like, goes like stink with as its running a 4.1 diff welded and 318 gearbox, actually is faster heads up then my friends E36 330ci to give you some kind of idea.
Its my drift car so i wanted easy/cheap/reliable power.
You can do the conversion in a day quite easily...
