Wax is just a protector, Polish cuts and shines. Alex is right, use a clay bar then repeat the polish and wax. Meguiars do a clay bar kit including quick detailer to lubricate, get it from Halfords or get it a bit cheaper online.

Once the claybar has contaminants on turn/fold and begin with a clean piece, always keeping the panel very well lubed.

Yes one bar will do, just turn the bar over or fold it to reveal clean clay. Check out this website for help, they have guides etc.

Seems a shame after so much hard work waxing!

i'f you've never used clay before you'll be amazed at the amount of crap it will pick up off an otherwise clean / polished car!

the lovely glassy finish it leaves will make the polishing and waxing process so much quicker and easier too. the clay is designed to be soft so the contaminants sink into it instead of damaging the paint. sounds strange, but it's brilliant stuff. obviously it can only hold so much before it needs replacing, but one bar should easily do a whole car, even a pretty contaminated one.
cheers,

i'm no expert, but clay'ing is easy!

i just did a clay and was amazed, used meguires and would recommend theirs. i found that using half a bar at a time was best in case you drop it! also, once you have the clay in a flat panacake shape, use one side, then dont flip over and use the other, but fold as others have mentioned.....if you do this, always keeping one side clean, then you can reveal clean clay easily. also recommend starting with least to most contaminated areas....ie: start wih the roof, then do sides, then boot, then bonnet, then bumpers and lower sills. if you start at the bottom, you'll just end up with heavily soiled clay.

when i did this, i followed up with meguires "swirl-x" polish which is pretty light and easy to use, followed by their NXT generation tech wax which was easy to apply and polish off (all by hand)..............3 hours later

cant stop feeling the car up now! totally smooth like glass...
