I've been pondering recently on what to do for an AFR gauge in the car for my megasquirt conversion...Basically it's only required to give me a feel for how the car is behaving, as when I'm actually mapping, the laptop will be plugged in and I can get the exact values off that.

I had a quick pokey around and found a piece of kit made by a guy called George Graves from E30tech:

Further nosing around found me this site:
http://www.scirocco.org/tech/misc/afgauge/af.html

So I've used the circuitry from the site and combined it inside an old hazard switch housing and guess what! It works! and it only cost a tenner in parts...bit of a tweak in brightness and it'll be perfect!

Just thought I'd share!

Great work Ilkorin.

For yourself and anyone else interested, right click here and select "save target as .." for Instructions on how to build this numerical AFR

I made one of these ages ago and integrated it in the dash cluster. But they are not more than a gimmick. Youcan't use the narrowband sensor for proper AFR tuning. Nice to see the lights cycling up and down seeing the lambda control working on steady throttle.

had it in a box first

but fancied to have it in the cluster

you can buy the kit from jaycar for a tenner

I bought a proper wideband kit later

Nice one! A numerical one would be cool if I can ever be bothered to build it!

I'm running this off an Innovate LC1 so at least it's getting a wideband signal! I'm liking the LEDs in the dashboard though, looks almost standard....all you need now is to butcher another dash for the service indicator front plastic bit and put the LEDs behind!

Just wiring it in today, looks pretty cool!

I'm after one of those Jaycar kits, will ring the UK number tomorrow and install it in the dash as above 8)

Tried ordering on-line and all the prices go to AUD and delivery of 2-4 weeks

I ordered in AUS and it wasn't a problem at all. But I ordered a few kits to make the most of the shipping costs.
When I see that these kind of gauges are sold for £100+ in the various catlalogues, I have to giggle.

for a while I ran both gauges same time and used the narrowband signal from the wideband kit. But together with the shift lights it go a bit to much nightclubby and I removed the narrowband gauge winkeye

Finally ordered 2 of these to get over the £10 minimum order, finally got the site to show me the prices in GBP£ too so one kit should be available (if I don't bugger one up attempting to assemble it) once they arrive, Will have to see about adding a variable resistor as a dimmer so the display can be turned off when I don't need it... Sooty tailpipes on LPG cant be right
