DanThe is your man
PM him and he'll sort you with a plug n pay loom. The looms vary a little depending on whether the car is vanos or non-vanos. Also, any loom he does he extends so that the ECU sits in the proper place under the dash. E34 looms aren't as long so you end up with the ECU sat near the battery unless yo extend them.
He can also do you a loom for the electric fan setup so that it all works as it should.
The engine looms are exchange, so he'll need your loom from your donor car. If he has some in stock he'll send you one straight away, but it not he'll need to modify your own loom.

Actually Dan, I have probably got them the wrong way around, maybe E36 is the shorter one?
This is why I pay someone to give me the right bit to fit

the m50 i`m looking at at the mo has a fan on it built in like the m20`s when i spoke to the person he didn`t know wether it had vanos or not he didn`t have a clue like me how do you tell.

That built-in fan is a viscous fan, and from what I've been told, it sticks out too far to fit in the bay (correct me someone if I'm wrong)Baz666 wrote:the m50 i`m looking at at the mo has a fan on it built in like the m20`s when i spoke to the person he didn`t know wether it had vanos or not he didn`t have a clue like me how do you tell.
Front of a vanos engine has a bulge as shown below:

Hope that helps,
Cheers

You'll need to remove the viscous fan and fit an electric one.
A vanos engine has a sticky outie bit on the front of the head which is the vanos unit, this is non-vanos -

This is with vanos -

the e36 loom is the longer one but if unravel all of an e34 loom it will just about stretch to the e30 ecu location (aparently!)Jhonno wrote:My E34 loom sat under the dash ok..

Barry, I would recommend going for a vanos version as the non-vanos stuff really needs to be worked (think of it as an M42 with a couple of extra cylinders).
Are you looking at the one that is for sale on here at the mo in Birmingham? That is a non-vanos lump and can't be original to the donor car as the dude is saying it is in a 1994 E36, I'm pretty sure by '94 all M50 stuff was vanos but I may be wrong.
If I am correct, then if the bandits that swapped in the engine in the E36 originally did not swap loom and ECU then it won't be running 100%.
I'm not trying to shat on someone's for sale goodies any more than I'm trying to avoid someone buying a box of bits if you know what I mean, just trying to save someone grief in the long run by needing to source more bits.
You'll need E34 sump, dipstick and oil pick up pipe before an E36 M50 will drop into an E30.

get rid of the viscous mate, it's too close for comfort and a heavy stab on the brakes could have it eating into the rad.
You'll be needing some 2.8 M52 exhaust manifolds, a clio servo and E28 M5 engine mounts (rubbers)

The servo needs to be from a clio with plastic front wings. I think from 99 onwards but say 2000 to be safe.
I just got my servo last week and got the same one as Cook318is, the part number is 77 00416626/C
Can an M40 box be used? If so I have one in the garage if you're interested.

Theres no right or wrong gearbox to use. I used an m40 gearbox with my m50, but im using the e36 328i gearbox with the m52. You can use an m20 gearbox but you need to modify the gearbox crossmember.Baz666 wrote:i`v been told to get a 318is m42 box is this right. also which servo will i need anyone from a clio ??
the "plastic winged" clio (about 2000-01 iirc) is the servo that you want. Its the preferred option over the golf servo people used to use.

i`v been looking into the clio servo there the same servo from 98-01 so just got one of them
as for the box i might aswell use mine then yeah do you know how it has to be modifyed.
it has the part number on 77 00416264/c would that be any different to your 77 00416626/c
also wheres the best place and price to get the engine mounts from.

Rubber mounts or alloy mounting arms?Baz666 wrote:also wheres the best place and price to get the engine mounts from.
I got my rubber mounts from Jhonno off here, so just got lucky with that.
As for the alloy mounting arms, I got them from a scrapyard for £10.
Parts needed:
M40/M20 ignition coil with high voltage lead

Thanks stup86 the engine mounts and the wiring loom done is all i need now

325i prop, 320 gear linkage bits and a standard E30 gearbox support.
M20 box will be on the tilt, iS box sits straight
sorted Dan just got one 1991 e30 m42 box
also Town he said he might drop it of at pentalvers for me, but as you know the place already it might be easyer if you do it i`ll let you know.

If you want to use M50 flywheel, clutch & starter I have the lot here, clutch looks very good.
Obviously the dual mass flywheel weighs a tonne, but I would post this lot to you for £30
You are better off with M20 flywheel & clutch though
