44 is calculated from fuel in vs miles done , simples :thumb:

no wind up, hard accel to 80 then 80 everywhere until I come off the motorway( approx 3.8 miles non M-way on my commute BTW )

My 320d does 30MPG 8O

I'm assuming it;s because I do all central town miles, stop start 1st gear only and no journey longer than 5miles / 20mins.

This pi55es me right off.

Ratch my iS never had an OBC. It was always calculated properly, brim to brim none of this tenner here, 2 quid there BS.

I always got 32 mpg out of mine however I drove(within reason), although it is worth noting I couldn't get much better than 34mpg no matter how nicely I drove. I put that down to the 4,10 diff and high revs on the motorway.

Seriously it is a 1.8, if you are getting 22mpg, get something with a bigger engine and enjoy the performance for the same cost. Alternatively FIX the problem it has obviously got. Incidently, my 540 does 24mpg mixed driving. More on longer runs.

Your 320D never warms up, that MPG isn't suprising. A small engined petrol might be just as good if it only did that 5miles a day, but I doubt that is all it does.

I'm ditching the 320d for an another E46/E90 petrol 6 as I know Diesels need to warm up and are useless as city cars.

I should just get a 1.6 Golf but I could never do that.

My iS gets about 30MPG in town but having just read above, how is Ant getting 44MPG???

Yipz,

My IS also likes sitting at 80mph... i know its not accurate but the fun meter is always reading 45+ at that speed. odd.

The OBC is nonsense but as Ant says he'd one the correct fuel/miles calc then that is incredible.

Mind you, I'm only going by OBC too so I should do a brim-to-brim and see what happens.

my 5 litre test was an experiment. i put half a tank to 3 1/4 in as i don't need to carry a full tank of fuel around every where i go simples i'm not a cheap-skate who puts £7.50 in hoping to get 100 mile return.

48.7mpg on the last £30

I only ever fill the tank 1/2 way, no point wasting fuel lugging too much around, with fuel so readily found there.s no need to carry more than 200 miles worth IMHO

30 litres of fuel is heavy

My e36 318is does around the 30 mpg mark but i wouldn't like to sit at 80-90 though as it seems to sit at 3800-4000 rpm. Mind you it will pull all the way to its limit rather enthusiastically. It's not worn out either as it's only got 88,000 miles on the clock and i have had it for nearly 3 yrs.

Oh and i have a question for ya, does the chain need adjusting? I ask this because when i serviced it last week i noticed some sort of plunger that looked to be an adjuster for the chain.

Ant, that figure is physically impossible and better than BMW's standard quote for a modern 2.0 Turbodiesel.

Stop lying.

undo the 19mm bolt cap on the front left side of the engine and a chain tensioner will pop out.you can get a replacement from bmw for £35 and it will be an m44 one [same as m42 part]

Magpie. Do you reckon it needs doing at this mileage? It doesn't rattle or anything and is it as simple as old out, new in? No locking of timing gear or anything like that? Does the tensioner load up with oil or is it just sprung?

Cheers by the way. :thumb:

Right - apparently my iS does 40+mpg, which I struggle to believe, but thats what an Internet calculator gives me:

Rationale: £30 @ 119.9/L = 25.02 litres, 230 miles on this much apparently equals 41.79mpg?

Which sounds ridiculously high to me.

Mine on 213,000 miles typically does 34mpg, I have seen 38mpg on a run, whats more surprising was that on the run I had two kayaks on the roof, and the car was fully loaded with my kit!

Its currently around 32mpg as i have only been doing short journeys of late

Is yours standard chrisIs

I think using chips must reduce economy.

Who uses an evolve chip on here and has there seen any differance in economy aftering using the chip.
