What rad are you using mate. The E36 M52 aircon rad is the one I think is the best to use.

I'm using a e36 "328i" rad. I say "328i" rad because it was sold to me as coming from one... but then i took the one out of the donor car and the donor car one was deeper, should of kept it really! Im looking at either getting an aluminium e36 aircon rad or a s50 ally rad with an expansion tank

again e36 "328i" twin speed fan. It only works on one setting but i'll replace it when i change the rad.
Around town it is absolutley fine, sits spot on the middle of the gauge... however after some 3.6k revving on the dually the temperature starts to creep up.

Lee (E30beemerlad) has one made by Danthe that works spot on

should of noticed it really lol!

If it gets hotter as you increase revs/speed then there is a good chance the rad is partially blocked
As above, E36 aircon rad is great, got one on both of my cars with no problems

it doesnt increase with revs or speed, steady speed and it slowly rises because the engine is high revving in 5th. If you give it bit more airflow through the rad and it cools down abit again.
I'm tempted to go for the aircon rad so i dont have to mess about with an expansion tank, but i think an expansion tank would look good. I take it you have the diagnostics plug in the e30 location dan?

Cook mate sorry to go off topic on your thead again. Not like me I know
Do all us massivly cool 24v swappers think that E36 aircon fan is the best option in our cars. Is there a better/bigger readily available.
Cheers dudes.

Yep
Only place for an expansion tank would be on the battery tray TBH

thought so, I dont fancy having the diagnostics plug underneath the expansion tank. I do love your engine bay though, i need to get an airbox sorted.DanThe wrote:Yep

The biggest rad afaik is the s50 one dezzy, but the aircon rad has be shown to be fine obviously (and cheaper at a guess!)

S50 rad is one of the biggest that will fit but yes its more expensive and needs a separate expansion tank, a good second hand E36 aircon rad is £30 - £40
The one on my chromie was 2 years old when I bought it and £30 including post

I'll be buying new anyway bud. Everything else on the car is new so theres no point fitting second hand stuff now
BMW S50 rad is about £140+ vat iirc? I want an ally one anyway tbh.

Dan, do you have to make up any brackets to get the E36 airbox to fit? I got mine out the garage the other day and couldn't see an easy way to mount it.DanThe wrote:Yep

Spent a few good hours on it today tarting it up abit. I sorted the numberplates out becuase they looked abit of a state, fitted new front speakers that i kept from the e36, fitted a rubber mat thing that fits in the boot so that if you have a 16" spare wheel it doesnt bulge through the carpet, removed the stickers on the strut brace ready for an e3024v sticker and i even washed polished AND hoovered it. I don't think i've hoovered the car out since i've owned it
And despite winning the car cleaning prize from total bmw magazine from last months issue i still havent got the car cleaning stuff, i havent even had contact from the mag or even had replies to my emails
(i ran out of polish today which reminded me of it again )

I didnt take any pics. I drove it around town showing off how mint it looks and making the exhaust echo
And i've been ill this weekend and cba
Meant to phone you actually, do you have any bottletops in stock? A mate of mine has just bought an e30 and wants cheap standard alloys over the 17"ers on it already.

And once again, i have the same clutch problem - WTF!? it randomly comes out if the blue. Its not half as bad as it was so i've made a clutch stop so the pedal doesnt go too far. Anybody have any ideas why its doing it?
On the brighter side - the car is prepped for a rolling road day tommorow
a tankful of super unleaded and its looking rather clean i must say
My nogaro / brake dust rims are coming on nicely

Looks great, you need the correct door cards though
seems a shame to mix and match on such a nice interior
Hope you can get the clutch problem sorted though

Trust me, i have the correct doorcards
They will go on when i put speakers in the parcel shelf, a previous owner has put some huge JVC speakers in the current rear doorcards
