Well after deliberating for ages whether i can justify spending serious money on my brakes, especially as i hardly drive the car now due to being in Italy, i decided to take the plunge yesterday. I made a few enquiry's and decided i was going to go for a Hi-Spec setup or a Tarox setup. I looked at Willwood too, but i ruled them out due to the fact that they are in the States. Any problems and i'd be up the duff. Anyway i've gone for monster 360mm disks all round (I think break conversion on just the fronts dont look right and my rear wheels are so big, the current Zimmermans look stupid) and gold 6 pot callipers on the front with the rears running the standard callipers. I ordered them lastnight, but they were having problems with their system so they're calling me back this morning (The'yd better hurry up before i change my bloody mind :D )

That will hopefully be the last conversion on my car although a friend of mine had a E36 M3 Evo fitted in his E36 318 and they done a fantastic job. Saying that, it's a E36 so i'm sure things were quiet straight forward, but i'm not sure how easy it will be with a E30. They've offered to do me the same conversion for a really good price and i'm seriously, seriously tempted. One day i want it done, then the next day i'm thinking it's not worth the money as my car does not get driven hard and i only get to drive it 2wice a month when i come back for the weekend. I dont know  I'll settle for the brakes for the moment and just see what happens with the engine. winkeye

 They should be great :D

Will the stock rear calipers fit around bigger disks?

I don't know much about your car but I think it is a showcar? Do you drive it as well? You will have to when you get those breaks on though, and a few high speed hard stops just to test them out :) . Make sure you have good engine mounts though or it might end up on the road in front of you :D . An E30 isn't heavy so with breaks that big I can't imagine how quickly it would stop.

It might be the first time ever where someone will have to upgrade the engine to handle the breaks instead of the other way around :D .

Aston i use to drive my car almost everyday, but like i said, i'm currently working in Italy, so it sits in the garage most of the time now. They offered me a really good deal on some 300mm disks with 4 pot callipers, but i thought "FCUK IT" Might as well go for the big daddy. They dont actually list the 360mm for the E30 so it's a special order. Not sure about the normal rear callipers, but i did ask them and they said it should all be ok (Lets hope thhe wasnt telling me that just to get my money)

I aslo though they'd come in handy if i do go for the E36 Evo lump, although i dont know what i'll tell my missus as she's fed up with me spanding all my money on the car and taking her out to the fish and chips shop on our nights out cause i have no money to take her anywhere else :D

I had to lie about the brakes and tell her that i've nearly crashed several times cause they are not good enough ad just too small for the car. I also told her i was getting Ԛ£1k off the price and you know how women like to think you're getting a bargain

Only down side if the 1 month wait

Ben,

Are you sure you will have clearance inside those deep dish rims of yours ?

I know the diameter won't be an issue, but the clearance from the rear of the spokes to the front face of the calipers is always an issue. When I did my conversion, I had to buy a set of rims that had the spokes as far out as possible, and still had to 'tweak' a few things to get enough clearance. I think I have about 3-5mm between my spokes and the calipers. Any sort of wheel dish was not possible. I appreciate your wheels are very wide, but they also have a very large dish.

If you can get them to tell you the caliper overhang, you should be able to measure the wheel to check for clearance.

Cheers Ian. This is my biggest worry. Were're talking Ԛ£2k here and i dont just want to go ahead and end up with egg on my face. That's why i made sure i asked them about the fitment and was told it should be no problem. I made sure it was also in a e-mail so i had the evidence in-case of any problems rather that a phone conversation where it would be my word against theirs incase of fitment problems. If i have to i'm quiet prepared to run spaces for some clearance as well.

Hi

Our process systems are just updating this afternoon, can we ring you in the morning when its all done?
I have just checked with the engineers who build them and its all going to fit right on.

Also what does your mate have on the front? As to match different patterns can be quite hard.

They just rang me and said they were worried about the spacing issue. I need 60mm of free space. It's really annoying cause i'm not back in the UK for another 2 weeks, so i'll have to wait until then to measure it. I'll use spacers if i have to. I MUST HAVE THESE BREAKS :x
