318is engine swap?

does anyone know what is involved in replacing the e30 318is engine with one from an e36 318is. cheers.

wow, quick response mate, cheers. would like to do this for the same reason, to fit the da supercharger. any more info greatly appreciated.

Aren't they the same engine, both M42's???

I might be wrong because I don't know a great deal about E36's.

Must mean changing to the M44... The two M42's are the same apart from the inlet manifold I think. The M44 also shares the same block and should drop straight in. Inlet manifold is different though so check that doesn't found anything. Shouldn't do.

The early E36 318iS had the M42 but later ones had the M44. Not sure but i think there are a few more differences with the electrics, etc on the M44. The M42 is basically the same with a different inlet manifold as Dom said.

Will there be problems with EWS?

The M44 is totaly different, everything from the pulleys to the oilpump to the crank to the chain system to the cams, to the head to the block. Its a cheap engine compared to the M42 i would not bother.
