Can anybody tell me how to reset the service light please (not the green/amber/red blocks - I still have 3 green lights) It is the amber clock and inspection which has illuminated ie the time based one.

Can I do this myself easily (disconnect battery?) or does it need a specific tool. And if so where could I find one in nottingham

Pretty urgent as there is a chap coming to view the car tomorrow lunchtime

Thanks in advance for any help

A service rest tool does the job, The one I have has a switch to reset the inspection or the service lights. Sure you can get them on e bay or post in the wanted section.

Resetting them before doing the correct work though is a bit saucy. If you have a GSF in Notts they might sell them.

I would share the concerns, but have done less than 3000miles since an inspII May last year.

Not going to get the tool before the chap turns up anyway so guess we'll have to discuss the cost of a service.

All you need is a small piece of wire

take the cap off the diagnostic plug and bridge two pins 7 and 11, or just earth 7

turn the ignition on for just over 10 seconds till the symbols go out

Cap back on, job done

Clock symbol, together with an inspection flag, comes up once every 12 months regardless of other inspections. It was BMW's attempt to make sure the cars were looked at regardless of milage covered at least once a year.
As already stated,a re-set tool is cheaply available,or a paperclip to the correct pins(if you can see the printed numbers!)will do the job.
