can anyone advise how id go about removing the abs from my touring, is it a simple matter of removing the unit and connecting up the pipes to bypass the system ?

im wanting to remove the system completely for two reasons, ive been told by a couple of sources that because im running such high power (stage 3 cosworth ,330-340 bhp) in my touring, the system cuts in too early for serious trackday use and i should remove it to regain full control. i also need the space where the abs unit is located behind the headlight to relocate my induction kit so i can draw in cold air away from the turbo to help it all breath a little better.

Think you may need a different master cyclinder as well.

the master cylinder works fine with ABS disabled - can't see why removing the ABS pump would make a difference.
I'm going to do the same with mine, i have to run without ABS for race regs and its a pita to reconnect the electrics for MOT - i'm planning to join the pipes with Goodridge hoses.
PS there is no direct link between engine power and braking requirements. If you have a more powerful engine which allows you to be going faster at the end of a straight you either need to brake earlier with stock brakes to slow the fixed mass of the car to the necessary cornering speed OR you can choose to have uprated brakes to slow you down quicker but these will work irrespective of engine power.
Of course its nice to have both.

hi mate, does the abs need to be reconnected for the mot? its not a legal requirement to have abs , if its there it obviously has to work, but they cant test me on something that isnt there. how would i go about removing the abs unit, with all the pipes that go in and out?

If my understanding of the new MOT test is correct (and it might not be), the computer at the MOT station, when fed with your VIN, will know if your car should have ABS, and if it has, or should have, will expect the test results for the warning lamp to be fed in. The ABS itself is not testable.fuzzy wrote:hi mate, does the abs need to be reconnected for the mot? its not a legal requirement to have abs , if its there it obviously has to work, but they cant test me on something that isnt there. how would i go about removing the abs unit, with all the pipes that go in and out?

yes it is true we had our computer fitted today but if the abs has been removed it dont make any differce to the test , as long as your brakes work ok and your abs light is not on
