60/40 drop is fine for an M50 so will be ok with M52

i'll be going for 35mm all round i think. But then is it worth going for iS rated springs becuase of the weight of the aluminium block.
It drives very nicely. Its so much quiter inside than the non vanos was... until you give it some shite! Although with the 3.64 lsd it struggles to put the power down

I've had alot of people stopping to look at and commenting on how well the engine suits the car and how clean it looks now.

My chromie is 35mm on H&R's mate

I have come round to Jhonno's way of thinking. I have ordered 15mm lower tophats for the front and will sort the rears with 60mm springs and a 10mm spacer.

not a word of a lie, you wouldnt be able to get over the speedbump getting into college. At least they have a nice hairpin into the student carpark which is normally greasy...

Chromie's don't need to be that low. They don't look right slammed. Facelifts need 60/40 IMO.Jhonno wrote:

Jhonno the wheels on it now look miles better than that picture.

Funny enough I think the Chromies need to be lower to compensate for the rear archDezzy wrote:Chromie's don't need to be that low. They don't look right slammed. Facelifts need 60/40 IMO.

Level not lower IMO 50mm is about right.
The rears need to be lower than the facelifts for that reason though.

Alex, the camera is a canon 400d with either the standard 18-55mm lens or my 50mm prime (fixed) lens. I have noticed kami's sig too, i have asked him about it and he says hes found it on google... funnily enough i have one identical on my photobucket. I'll be asking for the mods to remove it if he doesnt give me the link of where he found it.
I suddenly had a problem with the clutch on friday out of the blue. With the clutch all the way to the floor it was catching/rubbing on something
Anyway a few pm's to danthe and i took a trip to euro car parts to buy a new master cylinder (becuase it needed doing anyway) and an e36 m3 3.0ltr clutch slave cylinder. ECP didnt have the slave so a quick argument with gsf and i soon left with a slave cylinder. Now this is where it all goes downhill...
Fitted the master and slave cylinder (which isnt easy anyway!) About 10 pumps on the clutch when we started to bleed it and... BANG followed by the gearbox urinating all over the floor. The fucking slave cylinder popped for no apparent reason. managed to remove it and preyed that nothing stayed in the bellhousing. Rebuilt the old slave cylinder and put it all back together again. Bled absolutely lovely. drove it down the road and you can hear something tinging around inside the bellhousing
Removed the starter motor and the slave cylinder again to try and fish whatever it is out. No luck so it means that the bastard gearbox has to come out
I'll be on the phone tommorow to buy a genuine bmw slave cylinder regardless.
Fairly pissed off with it now.

Dude! I did EXACTLY the same thing.. You didn't locate the slave rod properly, as you've bled it up it's blown itself apart as it had nothing to press against..
I would suspect it is a spring, assuming you fished the rod out... It's an utter pisser. Took 1/2 day to pull the box and fish bits out before putting it back together again
I feel your pain!

Thing is the slave is such a tight fit between the tunnel and gearbox there isnt really any room to make sure the rod is located properly before bolting the slave up tight!
The rod came out fine and the spring was still there too,I suspect the bit floating around the gearbox is the ballsocket thing the the rod sits in
Back out with the box tomorrow

Gutted about the slave cylinder, the car's looking really good though
Regarding the suspension/speedhump discussion a couple of pages ago, I would say definately go 60/40.
My 2 door is lowered 60/40 and I can get over a wide range of speedbumps without scraping (without passengers that is!)
We have some bad speedbumps in Nottingham and I know several guys running -60mm and lower with no problems.
Just go over the bumps as slowly and diagonally as possible and you should be fine. Sumpguard is recommended though!

That's a good point, I don't (yet) have a 24v in there, that was with an m42. Most of the mates I mentioned are running m20 anchors though.Cook318IS wrote:do you have a 24v engine too?
It's personal choice at the end of the day, I'm just saying that speedhumps aren't impossible.
What setup would you go for if it wasn't for the big bump outside college?

24v engine sumps sit lower than the normal e30 sumps you see. I was going to go for 60/40 originally but then alot of people said that it would be too low for a e30 with a 24v engine and i dont fancy risking the sump tbh!

Ive not had one go bang but I have managed to drop the push rod into the bellhousing before, nasty, got it out with a telescopic pen magnet thing and some very long bent pliers.
Taking an M52 box out of an E30 is not a nice job
Had a similar problem before on a different car and used a hole saw through the bottom of the bellhousing and a nice fitting bung afterwards

Ah, I didn't know that. Wasn't really planning on changing the springs on mine. I'll report back on how low the sump is (iron block m50, -60mm) in a couple of weeks once I've pulled my finger out and got the lump in!Cook318IS wrote:24v engine sumps sit lower than the normal e30 sumps you see.
