i was picking the kids up from school today and knowing the massive MPV/4x4 driving women at the school are a liability, i parked round the corner, 200 yards up the road. as i parked, a ferking great kia sedona (mmmm, nice!) parked in front of me. off i trotted the school, picked up both kids and headed back to the car. while i was walking back up the road, i noticed the stupid bint in the kia moving out of the space then my alarm going off. she stops for a few seconds then drives off, turning round further up the road and passing slowly looking at my car. she then clocked me looking at her in a 'WTF?' manner and shoots off down the road. i was still 100 yards from the car at this point but fearing the worst, took her number plate down.

when i get to the car, i found she's smashed her towball into my car!!! luckily the damage seems to be just to my number plate and the surround. maybe some distortion to the bumper too but i'll have to strip it down a bit to check.

FFS, why the feck do these people act like this? she obviously knew and thought she's just do a runner but once she saw me, you'd assume she would stop and say 'oops, sorry' or something but no, the coward just fled. talk about sh1tting on your own doorstep, the car is there every day so she won't be hard to track down

i have three witnesses (will have to get their details but they're parents of other kids in my daughters class) but nobody knows exactly who she is, other than merely recognising her from the school.

if she had been honest, i'd just say give me £30 for a new number plate and surround and leave it there but as she had no intention of doing the decent thing, i have now reported her to the police and i suspect she won't bother herself... which is an offence

the police said i now need to contact my insurance company and they will contact her insurers.

i'm so bloody angry right now!!!!!!!!

does anyone have any pointers for me? should i try and avoid the insurers? will this effect my claims history at all? without the insurers or tackling her in person, is there any way of getting her contact details?

FFS,

No fault claim shouldn't affect your insurance.

Throw the book at her. They may do her with leaving the scene..... :D

this happened to my brother's wife a few months back.
she works at the local nursery and had her focus parked in the car park.
there was some wife in a brand new merc reversed into it then buggered off. as my brother says the damage wasn't that bad and if she had went in and said they would have sorted it out with £50 or so to cover the damage but as she fled the scene without so much as a note on the window
they called the cops. there was a few of the other parents had seen it and had actually said to Gillian about it.. when the police got the merc driver her attitude was " It was an old car I reversed into I didn't think it would matter!! "

hopefully! :D
all it would have taken was an apology and i'd just fix it up on the cheap with no hard feelings, trying to do a runner while i had obviously clocked her has really pished me off!
she must have known it was me, she walked down the road next to me and into the school.

i might bribe my kids to bully her kids :P

that attitude annoys the hell out of me! it's obviously well looked after and in far better condition than her X reg shitter

The police round hear wouldn't be arsed to do anything mate. They are totally un interested in this kind of thing. Best bet is to just pull her next time you see her and get as much cash as possible off her.
Insurance shouldn't be affected but by the time they quote for a new front vallance bumper numberplate surround/plate from the dealers your into write off money.

Sorry to hear this though mate. Hope it get sorted 8)

Schools are the worst Gareth. At my kids last school, parents used to park in the playgroud at pick up time. Some people (dad's included I have to say) just cannot drive! There was one woman, who had some tiny FWD french peice of scrap, that would take 5 - 6 attempts to park it. It was covered in dents. A couple of parents had their cars dinged, a lot by Mums who opens their car door, BANG, straight into the side of another car!!

And it's the ignorance of some people as well. There was one bint who'd park their Cayenne right in the road, at the very start of the zig zags, completely blocking the exit view pulling out the car park. And all because she was too incompetant to take it into the parking area.

At my daughters new school it's similar. I've had them just stop, in the middle of the road, so the kids can get out, open the boot, get their bags, walk round tot he drivers window, kiss mummy goodbye and then go to school. JUST F*CKKING HURRY UP!!!!!

Bad news Gareth, and I've had the same happen to me, so understand your pain. In my case the obvious guilty culprit was the MALE taxi driver who parked next to it

The Police aren't interested in that, they're too busy attending diversty courses. I'm afraid driving standards of both men & women are terrible these days. My van was damaged by the lorry who took a corner too quickly, despite exchanging details & the guy saying sorry, it took a year for his company to admit blame. They fobbed me off for 2 months, by saying it wasn't they're lorry. I'm afraid its the way of the world these days.

Lucky you dont ride a motorbike I've had 4 women pull out on me at junctions. It wasn't as if i was that hard to see wearing a bight red day glow jacket and waterproofs with my headlights on full beam  Luckily the old GP125 I was using for back and forth work was built like a tank and caused more damage to there cars than it did to my bike. I think women have an inability to turn there head more than 20 degrees to the right when driveing a car.

Blimey don't even get me started on this topic!! I have Mum's that live 500yrds from the school use the car!!!! WTF
Ditto the dents, door opening onto cars, parking in ridiculous and dangerous places, blocking peoples drives, blocking the road etc etc etc...

My advice would be to leave the insurance out of it!! Even a non-fault claim will increase your premium as it still gets logged as a claim even if it's not your fault and you're not claiming. Unless I'm corrected by someone here who actually knows for fact, I'm under the impression that insurance companies have the policy these days of going 50/50 on ALL claims fault AND non-fault!! Work that one out :(

ooh, that's a handy form :D ta!

the standard of driving around the school is shocking. there's a set of zig zag lines outside but several parents seem to think they're spaces saved for merc 4x4's and new range rovers to prevent them having to walk as far as the peasants. these overindulgent tossermobiles also have limo tint glass so you have no way of seeing if anyone is coming down the road. annoyingly the council seem unable to stop is as they simply pay every ticket that arrives with small change.

You've got 2 options here really dude.

1- Just wait and confront her next time and see if she's willing to give you a cash settlement, maybe get the names etc of the witnesses first.

2- wait until I'm back at work on Tuesday and send me her reg number and I'll find out who her insurers are.

This sort of thing is better "off the books" as far as insurance is concenered otherwise you've no alternative than to declare it with any future quotes/ renewals

hmm, you could be right there, best left quiet as far as the insurers go. at least for now.

I'll try and collar the bint next week and take it from there. the collision report number / slip i have from the police will probably help her along doing the right thing :D

what's the implications of her not reporting this? Just as an angle to 'persuade' her with... winkeye

Oh, i've had a close look at the car and it seems the bumper has shifted on one side, hopefully no damage beyond that and the number plate/surround.
i'll get some pics up later.

Had it before, seen it before, laughed at it before.

The best encounter I've seen was (thankfully not involving me) a woman parallel parking a Z3. She got into the space ok, good angles and all that, but went too far backwards and knocked into an old TVR, made a little scratch/dent on its bonnet and bumper, then forwards into brand new fiesta, making again another scratch in its rear bumper. As if this doesn't satisfy the appitite for watching woefully bad parkers, she then reversed backwards into the TVR again, this time actually cracking the bumper with a thud. She then put up her paycard, got out, and unknowingly walked off into town whilst around about 15-20 people where watching her directly from a resturants outdoor area. Best of all was her entry into the space was fine, final result was appauling, rear wheel near a foot further out than the front.

2 people from the restaurant caught it all on their camera phones, and were prepared to sit and eat/drink all night till the TVR owner came back. Thought he should at least know the comotion this "hit'n'run" caused!!

Although, I park in a public carpark a few mins away from my house, the amount of door bangs I get are insane. And at college, when I had my fiesta, a van just reversed into my car and made a dent in the front drivers wing and destroyed the indicator housing. No witnesses, but at least he had the balls to go to the reception and inform them of what happened and hand his details in. Even though it was already a shitty, battered fiesta. Then, maybe becuase of his honesty, I never actually did anything about it!

Happens to everyone at some point Gareth. Even in america where there is like a 50m gap between evey car.

I would go to the school every day, get there early too. Park where she will have to drive past you and make a point of spotting her and giving her the evils daily. She might get paranoid, nervous and smack into another car whilst parking. Then you can rubberneck the situation and maybe have a chuckle back at someone elses misfortune.

My 4x4/MPV tolerance is getting thinner by the day. I'm nearly at the point of writing a letter either into the local paper (as a lot of people will actually see it) or print enough out and send one to ever house in the island. Talking about what a 4x4 driver should do differently as I've nearly crashed soo many times due to their incompetance, ignorance or the fact that I cant reverse out of my work's parking space because I cant see past a bloody 4x4.

haha, feel better now you've got that off your chest! :D

here are some pics. you can see the passenger side of hte bumper has shifted back - i think this is just the brackets slipping but i've not done anything yet as i want it to be 'as-found' when i confront her.

Sadly even reporting the claim (completely not your fault) still affects your insurance premium..

I would report it to the police and she will be done with leaving the scene of an accident or something along those lines.. Other than that, is it worth effecting your premium over £20 of bumper? Shit as it is..

Tough luck buddy, after everything on the roam as well!!! Vengeance is a dish best served cold, shame her by warning all the other parents about her actions, and how you're the good guy, and wouldn't have taken it any further if she'd have been honest etc etc and get your kids to spread rumours through the school about her despicable actions!

Kia sedona's feature the worst drivers! On both the way to, and from Scotland I had muppets unable to keep a constant speed within 10mph in them, bouncing around me, overtaking then slowing down for miles and miles and miles!

Why do parents have to drive their offspring to school?
Both the wife and I walked or cycled when we were school age.
Our lad was walked to school untill he went to secondary school, then he cycled.
'Schools closed',make a hell of a difference to city traffic levels, perhaps if 'school run' was an insurance catagory risk in the same way that 'modified cars' are, parents would start walking again.
Anyway,Gareth,I have a spare bumper or two stashed away if you need one!

I'm thinking find out where she lives, pop round one night after the kids have gone to bed. Wait til she's pouring hubby another glass of wine then suprise her when she returns into the living room by tying her husband up and take random slashes at him with the huge knife you brought with you. You may have to donkey punch her to stop her screaming though!

She'll not do it again in a hurry!! Mark my words.

If you are going to confront her you need to make it look worse than it is, readjust the LH wing, pull the arch liner out a bit, bash the number plate up a bit more, when you do see her tell her you've been quoted £900 repair costs as the front panel is obviously damaged, dont forget to mention the 6 points that comes with the "leaving the scene" offence and how badly insurers look upon it winkeye
