I have a 1-series with black door handles and I would like to dismantle those to be able to paint those the same colour as the body.
But how do I dismantle the door handles?
(They look almost the same as those on a E46, if that can be of any help)
Thanks!
Thomas

eeek taking new cars apart! hope you don't invalidate the warrenty!
Surely if you can offord a 1 series you should have paid the dealer to do it in the first place
On an e30 you take the door card off and undo some bolts on the inside of the door! I suspect taking the door card off a 1 series is an arse and putting it back will be even more difficult!

Well, I have ordered a new Hartge frontspoiler which needs to be painted and I would do the door handles at the same time.
Great comments by the way, anyone with answers?

Exploded diagram of the 1 series door handle.
Perhaps it will help you visualize the thing.

Does look the same as on an e46, so.....
Remove little black grommet on inside of door (on door shut above door catch just below outside handle level)
behind it should be a small allen bolt - undo this and insert the key into the door lock barrel and it should pull out.
I think there is then another allen bolt behind this which is opposite thread and hold the handle in. Undo, the pull the handle out and to the side to remove
I think people were trying to say its a bit of a wierd question for an e30 website as MOST peoples experience on here are with e30s
hope that helps though

Ask on a 1-series forum not on an E30 forum. THis is blatantly taking the mickey. Try the bmwcar forum, they have a 1-series section.
