I have a 1989 320i and was thinking of cleaning my fuel injectors. I came across these rebuilt ones on ebay. Has anybody got any experience with these and would they be suitable?

Am I better off just cleaning my old ones?

Thankyou

Most people consider that the M20B20 has enough of a drink problem already. Why do you want to make it drink even more for no gain?
BMW fitted the correct injectors for your engine at the factory, but they will be well out of spec by now. Go to our 'traders' section and look up 'injectortune'.

Those injectors flow 30% more than the standard items, but you have to ask yourself what is your engine going to do with all this extra fuel? Best option is to clean your own injectors, mate.

"At 204cc, they will provide a significant increase in fuel delivery over the injectors found in the M20" - actually a very bad thing!

Don't do it. I tried those exact injectors in a 325i and the result was black, oily plugs - way too rich. Idle was terrible although it went fine with the foot down. They might be of some use when I go megasquirt and the computer is capable of adjusting but until then I wasted my money.

Switching to four pintle injectors may have some minor benefit but only if the injector is the correct rate.

Either buy remanufactured injectors of the correct rate (156cc I think) or get your current ones cleaned if you can afford to be without the car a day or two.

At the risk of being corrected by the more informed members, the standard 325 parts are 149/150cc per min.....I think.
More fuel is needed to generate more power, so if your engine hasnt been modded in order to generate this extra power then simply adding more fuel will cause running issues (unless your ECU can fully control the injectors duty time AND it knows which injectors you've fitted)

An engine produces power in proportion to the mass of air it pumps through itself. Fuel needs to be added to this air in the correct proportion to allow all the oxygen in that air to be consumed.
Too little or too much, and power is lost.
While it's true that BMW set this ratio on the lean side of what is required for maximum power, as a compromise between power, efficiency, emissions and fuel consumption, it's not that far out - or won't be when your existing injectors are rebuilt, and flowing what they should be.

For what it's worth, the report sheet that I got with my injectors when they came back from Injectortune shows all six to be flowing a maximum of 150cc/min.....ie as new condition.

Same here as N00b - mine were cleaned by them only a week ago and were reading between 123 - 129 before cleaning; upon return they all read 150. It's a 325i (88) with 109k on it. As a zone member you may get a discount - think mine cost £66 for all 6 and were returned within 72hours. I was most impressed.

Thanks for the advise. I am in Australia and locally I can't find someone who will clean my injectors for less than about $250 (about £140). I have found some 156cc rebuilt injectors off ebay, would these be suitable for my 1989 320i?

Do what I did.

Keep your eye out for some 2nd hand injectors on the Zone, buy them (I paid 15 quid) and get them sent to Injector Tune by the seller.

Then get them sent to you in Oz once cleaned, that way you only pay international postage once, it's still going to be cheaper than 140 quid all in and you'll end up with a spare set of injectors, and don't have to take the car off the road.

Everyone's a winner !

I'm using a set of 715 injector off eBay - it's all good, smooth idle, not lacking in power (though the new head, valves, clean pistons, sealed exhaust etc. might be making up for any problems). Will be sending the 415s off to injectorclean.

Ok, so I purchased some stock refurbished injectors from a Canadian company on ebay. I pulled out my old injectors and found one of them completely covered in crap. My car was serviced 5k ago and last tank full had a bottle of expensive fuel injector cleaner through it. What a waste of money (bottled injector cleaner, not the service).

The refurbished injectors have resulted in a very obvious increase in power to the car. If anyone out there has not had their injectors cleaned, then I highly recommend it.

I'm still using them - very happy with these, the car has plenty of power and I had it put on a gas analyzer, mechanic says everything well within spec. A good four-pintle replacement for the stock items. Fuel economy is also way better but since they went in at the same time as new head, new cam, properly sealed exhaust etc. hard to tell if they are responsible.

Will these injectors be suitable for a 2.7 build?

I read somewhere that there is 2 types of injectors something like they have different impeedance (spelling) is this for pre-facelift and facelift... If a face lift car is running upgraded motronic will they be suitable?

No 3 injector (counting from the front) was covered in oily carbon gunk. No 5 was clean. I am going to spray a bottle of carby cleaner down the throttle body then drive it for a month. I will then pull out the new injectors and spark plugs for inspection. My conclusion is, if there is more gunk after that then the cylinder has a major problem.

Any suggested alternative methods of diagnosis?
