No buffer magpie, i did use some cutting compound but the steam cleaner was easier, used the steam for about 5 seconds in one spot then use the brush bit and it comes straight off, some areas are harder to do that others though

i wouldnt mind touring whore doing me some in silver as mine have gone a bit funny now (my own fault for being lazy with the prep work)

so off with the rocker cover and upper inlet, off to powder coat [been wanting to say that for years :chuckle: ]

Image
^ still a nice clean engine :x

Image

now time to check out the chain

winkeye
Image

nice and tight on the tensioner side  time to check out the other side.

Image

to show how shite a none oe chain is,well i nearly got it off the sprocket with a screw driver

Image

why waste money on cheap engine parts, ffs :cheese: :cens:

the head remains completely undamaged,i guess that's just luck that the chain never snapped.

Now imagine what the bottom sprocket will be like, the cam sprockets in the original engine in my old iS were like that but it was on the original chain in 118k miles, the crank sproket was fooooked.

Alex if you changing your chain do the sprokets, may cost more but will be worth it. New chain on old sprockets is a waste of time.

A new chain on old sprockets will cause it to jump the teeth. as a old chain on new sprockets will wear the teeth out

got the patient out of the garden for surgery.
Image
got it all ready to remove in a couple of hours and pushed the crane back to mine from the garage as i couldn't be arsed to take it apart and get it in the people carrier.
well it is only a little one winkeye

Image

after a bit of head scratching and jiggling it came out,i had the zaust manifold fouled on the steering linkage and nearly lifted the car up

dug out the engines history,it had a recon head from "the head centre" in pompey [engine from gosport] price of head £465 inc vat + receipts for all the gaskets [head gasket £67] and a gsf chain £35 buit on old sprockets. only half a job then after all that coin spent on a recon head :? 8O no new guides either.

time to build up the engine i'm using.fitted my plenum with all good pipes, fitted my engine loom, alt, power steering pump and the fly wheel set up with clutch and test fitted the g/box to make sure the clutch is lined up.
Image

my old engine,no slurge around the inlet
Image

the replacement still no slurge :D
Image
finished today with the replacement all ready to fit bar the zaust manifold.

now i'm thinking about fitting the engine, then the box as i i'm working on my own and it might make life easier as i've no-one to let the hoist down and guide the engine in while i'm under the car at the gearbox end levelling the job out etc .
