Hi,

With the case removed, i've got the main workings of the LSD in front of me but the 8 alen key bolts have been loosened and need to be done back up.

Anyone know how much to tork up these alen key bolts??

Just need some specifications or something as when they are tight, the diff is locked all the time so they must have a specific tork setting.

Any ideas?

might be a daft thing to say but this type of LSD feels locked all the time i.e. both output cups rotate as one. when fitted to a car you can just about turn one wheel by hand when the other is on the ground but requires a lot of force to do so

Those should be 22Nm, and require loctite.

Ian.

Cheers Ian, If that works, your a legend!

Could you tell me, should they be done up to that tightness to allow just the correct amount of slip for the clutch plates? That was my understanding, when done up too tight, the diff becomes locked and when too loose, it acts like an open diff.

Thanks

Those bolts can come loose and fcuk the whole diff, as Ian says, loctite them in at least. I replace them with 12.9 grade socket cap screws and wire them.

You've got your pre-load too tight on the cluster by the sound of it, it should crack at less than 80 lbs.

What do you mean by wire them and is there a BMW part number for the replacement screws?

Toby - When we tried to drive the car round a corner, the inside wheel spun in one place so the diff was completely locked.
