I know some times the part numbers dont tally up with the etk. When i checked stuff on my engine, like the m50 oil pump i needed it wasn't there.I asked Ian about this and he said it happens sometimes.I wouldn't worry ,if you got it from a trustworthy person it should be ok.Just make sure it is a 2.5ltr engine and not a 2.0ltr like what happended to dave !

When you buy an engine it's always usefull to get the VIN of the car it comes out of if possible.

hi all. just read this whole post!! it's a bit of a beast now hey. i used e34 525 throttle cable and it fitted perfectly. no need for shortening or any of that mission. just looked at my mates m3 and it should fit the s50 no probs. also the e34 wiring box is spot on. get the flappy bit on the top and it sits under the rubber seal and doesn't go anywhere. theres a pic of my engine bay in the gaydon meets pic buster. andy took a couple. have a look m8. see what you reckon. may have found an m3 diff now so will hopefully have 5th again and a bit of lsd lunacy. plus i may also have found a s50 lump to go in now instead. thought it's an easier option than tuning the 2.5. 100brake bolt in. it's from a 95 car so shouldn't have ews. just plug in and play. i'll keep you all informed. who's gonna have the next running 24v?? all getting close.

Mines up and running, but still not taxed and tested for the road.
Just bought a LPG kit for it on ebay to set me back another couple of weeks - but at least I'll be able to afford to run the thing!

just had to make another card board mock up gearbox mount.I just double checked the one i made last week and realised the jack had crept therefore my mount would be far too low.Jacked it back up,measured and shimed the box back in place and made a new cardboard mount.Going to take it to work tomorrow.
Its a good job i checked

wisely said there,i'll remember that next time.
Good luck fitting the LPG.My range rover has it fitted, didn't fit the LPG myself but doesn't look to tricky.Stinks when you fill it up mind, also slight loss in power also.

This is injection LPG kit, not single point venturi, so, set up correctly, there shouldn't be any power loss. IN fact, with the help of the engine knock sensors, there's a possibility of a small gain.

Ԛ£465 including a torroidal tank. Kit is short of about Ԛ£100 worth of bits, half of which I have spare anyway.buster wrote:nice one,how much did that set you back ? mines the crappy single point one.
Have to go for injection on the M50, as that plastic manifold woudn't take too kindly to a backfire when it's full of explosive mixture.

yeah i agree on the plastic manifold !
my rangie is hotwire injection and have a cone filter so a backfire on mine cant damage anything.Mine only backfires when i try to run the very last of the gas out of it anyway, its ok normally.

Cars from Jan 1995 have EWS as did my 1995 3.0ltr.
Mines nearly there, just got to bolt the manifold into place and do the final fit of the exhaust. But it will be a while before its insured/taxed/MOTd - having to move house is costing a bitrandomdave325 wrote:who's gonna have the next running 24v?? all getting close.

What is everyone running with the 6 speed gearbox ?
Has anyone used the m20 single mass flywheel with any other clutch combination? i noticed a peculiar bearing part number only meant for the M engines, not sure if it's because the intake spline is different on larger capacity boxes
anyone can enlighten on this matter?
cheers

to be honest,321 bhp and 6 speed to match ,in my opinion theres no need to piss about with lightened flywheels and super duper clutches etc.Although mine has a special racing clutch fitted, thats only because the person who had the car which the engine came from had 100 bhp of nitrous oxide going through it and so he bought the clutch when the original let go.I would have just replaced it with a standard bmw one before i fitted the engine if it didnt have that clutch in.
So id say leave well alone and fit a standard clutch.
cheers

Sorry for a bit of off topic again. I have another question about wiring. There is a connector on pictures on link. Does anyone know what its for and do i need to do something when puting M50 in ? The pics are not from my car, in my car its just hanging there not connected to anything.
Is it possible that M50 does not start because of this ?

I'm using all standard 6 speed parts for the clutch, flywheel and release bearing. Not sure what combination you would use when fitting it to an M50.
You may want to check with Clarke to see what he used when he fitted the 6 speed on the 3.0L S50B30 he used in his conversion.

Right.. fitting my porsche brake servo atm.. looks like it is too long (inside the car) was gonna try fittin the end it off the bm servo and drill a new hole to solve, however i cant get the end bit off (bit with the hole, connects to the pivot..) did anyone else have this?
Do you have facelift or prefacelift model ? Only prefacelift models have that connector here (mine is 1987).ian332isport wrote:I'm pretty sure I don't have that connector on my wiring loom.iKst wrote:Sorry for a bit of off topic again. That is the connector for fuel consumption / rpms / speed to and from the ecu,iKst wrote:Sorry for a bit of off topic again. I have another question about wiring. your ecu will need the kmh signal
your dash will need the rpms signal
your dash will show incorrect mileage so you really donԚ´t need it.

connect it all up and see where the pedal is. then adjust the rod between the servo and the pedal. i'm pretty sure that is adjustable. bit dark now too see. but hopefully you should have enough to allow for difference.

buster. what brakes are you using on the front? i 've just got an evo lump for mine n i reckon the rears will be fine but the fronts may get upset with an extra 150 bhp. i seem to remember ian is using porsche 993 brakes on the front when i read it in the tbmw feature many moons ago and other than that the only other logical solution is to use the e36 m3 fronts but either way i would have to fit 17's and i really don't want to as i hate the way they ride on them. i suppose the only other option is e30 m3 front struts/ rear beam. i suppose they would be up for the job. plus i've been looking for an excuse to fit 16in bbs's for ages now

Hi dave,
I haven't decided what im doing up front yet,i think im going to go for the godspeed brembo 308mm disk conversion kit. http://www.godspeedbrakes.fsnet.co.uk/frameset.htm
If i want to then i can still drop down to 16" wheels as i have been considering them as ive heard they are a better ride than 17" s but if i stick with 17" then they still fit.
This is also the reason why im after a 25mm master cylinder. The e30 M3 is 25 mm and i direct replacement but I need an audi one as its shorter than the e30 master cylinder because i need the space near the intake.
Does anyone know if i can get 46 mm gearbox mounts from anywhere ?
The m3 ones are worn out anyway but when i put my gearbox mount back on i noticed i needed an extra 12mm - 1/2 inch more height.I could pack it out but id rather get some taller mounts.E30 ones ford audi etc as long as they are approx 2" dia and m8 thread coming out in the midddle on both sides and 46 mm tall.
cheers
andy
