I've just ordered one, Ant does 2 types Wild or Mild. I opted for the Mild as I'm not intending to do any engine work on the car, reckons a 4-7bhp will be achieved from the chip and the wild one 7-12bhp and is good if your doing engine work like cams etc. I'll let you know the result when I get mine, but Ԛ£55 for a chip can't really go wrong there!

I am one of the users of Ant's ZONE CHIP
After fixing it, for the first time I felt I am glad I brought this car
Now I am going for the next mod, BBTB
12 + 17 = 30BHP + 172 = 200 BHP not bad heh

I want to install it in my rally car but I want to know why it feels better?
What is it actually doing compared to a standard chip?
Are emissions higher and is mpg sacrificed (as it's pretty shocking normally anyway)?
I intend to use a standard cam to start with will there be issues if I up rate my cam after installing the chip?

That seems a bit optimistic to me. I though those sorts of gains didn't happen until you'd done a 2.7 conversion.haffeel wrote:I am one of the users of Ant's ZONE CHIP![]()

very optomistic i think, not trying to put you down in any way dude what so ever but i can gaurantee you that you wont be pushing 200bhp+ off a chip and BBTB, sorry to put a downer on it dude but its a fact
you would need upgraded cams and a bigger lump to get that kind of figure surley?

Sounds cool, but i am a bit unsure if they will work for a SA car or the SA climate. Over here we have air preasure differnces, so if we do chip we need to then dyno the car and modify the settings on the chip to get the best out of the engine...
I was thinking of putting in a DASTEK chip in my car (one of those future plans
) when i do it, i will definatly post up the results.

Not going to happen like that! Probably looking at a 10BHP increase with the both. A respectable result.12 + 17 = 30BHP + 172 = 200 BHP not bad heh

Hyperion, I have a hot and high version thats tweaked for a climate such as yours dude, have shipped a good few down under with no complaints
My guess is some one is SA had brought in some US spec chips hence the tweaking requirement
Cant recommend the Dastek route...... expensive toy unless you play to add a hotwire MAF in the future ?
the original Zone chip made a healthy 186 BHP on the Dyno @ Teeside Auto Tech, thats with no other mods and the car made 172bhp stock so obviously in fine fettle

Do the chips not damage the engines? Ie. over stress them or something? Other wise wouldnt BMW have put them in there cars?! I have a 318i, and was wondering about a zone chip. Also does it alter insurance, or do people just not know?

insurance dont need to know
i think as far as bmw not putting the chips in there is all to do with the goverment regs, but apparently with a chip all the restrictors magicly dissapear

I'd like some confirmation along the lines of what "bmwe30mtech" asked.
Is this a genuine remap style chip, or just a resistor like the ones on ebay? I guess a lot of people can't be wrong, but it sounds a bit too good to be true?

A resistor mod like on Ebay is not going to give you the gains that these chips appear to give! (The resistor mod is going to make a percent or two if you're lucky).

The resistor mod is just something to make the ECU think its in cold start mode is it not? In that case would just be overfueling all the time and not good for the engine?
Anyways I have decided to get a Zone chip, order placed in the shop this morning

Sorry if I sound stupid, but are these mapped to your exact car or are they 'off the shelf'? I presume its the latter for the (very reasonable) price! What stage of tune should you have already for the 'wild' chip? What happens if you add more mods after installing the chip, eg BBTB?
Thanks in advance, Ollie

That's exactly what they do. I was just looking for reassurance that these aren't just resistor mods of some kind, and that they are actual chips...JazzMan wrote:The resistor mod is just something to make the ECU think its in cold start mode is it not? How easy are they to find if you're an insurance inspector? ;)
