its not that hard you will need to take the rear window out. buy some clothes pegs to hold it in place while your ligning it up.

Both front and rear screens need to come out to do it properly.
The fabric folds around the flange that the screen rubber sits on.

Toby,
people have spoken about painting them with fabric paint. Quite tempted to do it myself, but I'd like to see someone's who has already done it to see how good it looks before I attempt it myself.

i`ve done mine with paint, i got the paint from APC in Telford.
you wouldn`t know its not factory fit.
definately worth it took me bout an hour to do all in.
the paint is also good for dashboard and door trims etc to go from beige or blue to black.

Here is a writeup I did on the install.

What paint did you use, and from where?

went back to the breaker today to have the de-chrome trim and rear ARB, but left the headlining. doesn't look like a fun job, that!
cheers for all the input people.

That was going to be my next question! Replacement sounds like too much hard work. Not even sure if dark/black headlinings are available for tourers anyway.

I think it was Simon who mentioned a black headlining in a late touring??
Ask at BMW I guess, but it wasn't cheap.

i had it mixed by trim code colour by APC in telford.
i told the guy what is was for and he looked up exact properties for the paint and made an aerosol for me.
the finish is superb honestly!

The ETK does show an anthracite headlining for the latest tourings, and I think it was about Ԛ£210.

will - yeah i bet it is. but i've only got the roof trims as the passenger door is missing on the scrap car. so i didn't bother getting the bits that go below the windows as one side would still be chrome! i'm just going to put the roof bits on and see how it looks like that. cr@p, probably, but at least then it'll match the rest of the car

you don't need fancy paint to do this.
On my old 325 i had started to use special fabric paint but ran out half way through so i went to the local motor factors and got some normal matt black aerosol and finished it with that.Looks bad at first as it looks streaky and sh1t but after a few coats it dries and looks totally original, you cant tell the differance.
As a plus i also got really high whilst doing it.
I left the windows in place ,just opened the rear quarters and masked everything up.
